It's early yet. Moon, because I respect your knowledge of baseball, would you notify me when it's not early yet?

It's only early when Early pitches.

My thread is like a spider's thread, at this point.

This past winter I wrote that the offense would be bottom third because the cheapskate owner bought bums like IKF and Durbin rather than Schwarber or Alonso. I thought we’d finish fourth but it seems that was overly optimistic.

This team stinks!!!

The Sox didn’t get IKF instead of Alonso; they got William Contreras instead of Alonso.  And it’s looking like the right move.

Without a strong Crochet, the season is toast.

He hasn't looked like '25 Crochet all year TBH.

I mentioned this past offseason more than once that after Cro Man’s first heavy workload of innings last year if it would have any effect on him this year.

He has only 2 quality starts out of 5 so far…

They basically got Suarez plus one from Durbin & IKF instead of their top goal- Bregman.

Yes, Contreras looks better than Alonso and at a fraction of the cost and long term commitment.

Even if Breggie isn't hitting well right now, we heard that he worked well mentoring the younger guys. Seems that they are missing that right now.

I understand that and miss that aspect of him. I wasn't against brining him back, but not at the CHC price and not to fill the high need of a BIG BAT.

Contreras looked like a bigger bat to me than Breggie, last winter.

"Two big bats." It would have been Contreras and Bregman, right?

That was what I think the Sox felt "met the need." My point was they were wrong (on Breggie being a big bat.).

They would have had to include Mayer in a trade to get that big bat. They didn't want to. 🫠

Still would have left a platoon at another position or a need for a Durbin-like trade.

I'd have been fine with that. I felt Duran was the main guy to trade, but I'm not sure he'd bring back what I wanted.

Trading Mayer seemed to fill one need while opening another, and as it turns out Durbin-IKF don't seem like capable replacements. We'd have need Mayer plus for KMarte and Duran and maybe plus for Paredes. That would have locked Story at SS.

I think the Sox weren't going to be able to completely plug all the holes in one offseason.

It would have been nice if they could have actually treaded water though. Yes, it's still early. Yes, the roster construction is still not where I would have left it.

Should have traded Duran for prospects.

I don’t recall a lot of teams being interested in Duran.  San Diego was, but their farm is barren at this point…

CIN has a horrible OF. His bat could play really well there. There was talk about PHI too.

I still can't believe HOU would not do Paredes for Duran straight-up. I thought we should get King, Sousa or Janek with Paredes, but had it been 1 for 1, both teams looked to get better.

HOU is currently 3rd in OF fWAR. They still need help though. Maybe they'd deal for Duran with prospects?

We could have had both. I am sure one of them could have moved. Wasn't Contreras a catcher? Do we have a catcher that can hit the baseball as well as he can? Or we could have had Schwarber as our DH. There were alternatives besides signing the stiffs we ended up with. The results are predictable and visible in our record.

WAS a catcher. He's aged into being a 1b and he's pretty great at it.

The point is that talent was out there either via FA or trade and we ended up with stiffs. That is one reason why we are in LAST PLACE. Our team OPS is .651, good for 14th in the AL. We are 25th in MLB in runs scored. We STINK. AGAIN. No one should be supporting this team by going to games or buying FLOPS products.
