I think Bichette and Semien are automatic 2Bs.  They almost have to trade Semien.  Yoshida for Semien, plus enough/some money to even it out, is a match made in heaven.

so up to the last threshold 284 million the Sox would pay almost $15 million in tax, paying $42 a year puts them well over the third tax line and slightly over the Cohen line. I don't know the exact number.

But the payroll +Tax cost to the Sox for signing Bo to an equivalent contract would be somewhere around 65-70 million per year.

I think if the Sox had a deal in place for him they don't sign Suarez and make a move to dip below 264.  Any ambitions of him signing died the moment the signed Suarez.

I think they are more likely to move someone like Baty or Vientos.i

Semien (3 yrs $72mill) wouldn’t be the cure for the Sox offense.  But it opens the door for Duran and possibly Casas at some point to step in at DH.

With Yoshida owed much less (2 yr $36mill), it’s a saving for the Mets already.

But it does weaken their defense…

He's still a pretty good hitter with a very good glove.  I don't always look for best-in-class solutions.

Sox are NOT trading for anyone that has money, they're past the 2nd threshold.  Everyone they sign now they're paying that salary times 1.42% apx.  So Semiens 24 Million a year becomes 34 million a year.

If we are trading Yoshida it's a salary dump.

If we are trading for Semien, we are adding prospects so they eat money.

Adding Yoshida and then adding money just feels like malpractice.

I don't know how the deal with salaries on a trade, but Yoshida is owed $18M per, and Semien is owed $24M per.  The extra $6M still leaves us under the 3rd threshold and makes us a lot better.  This scenario had assumed Bichette plays 2nd and Baty plays 3rd, which is by no means necessarily so.

He's been under .700 two years in a row, and he's 25.

He is not the guy we need for offense.

Of course, adding Yoshida or Hicks, or both to a deal for him gets me listening, but we need some sort of offensive boost to the line-up, IMO.

Our best advice is to enjoy 2026, we just continue to be amazed at the $$$ being paid to some(oh hell, most)of these players. In fact they are paying bums millions and it makes us wonder what is really going on with these pro teams, they almost seem like they have become someone's washing machine of sorts.
