JH is getting better at "the game of sham."

He signs Bregman, then dumps Devers.

He signs Buehler to the highest AAV for a SP'er since Sale (who was an extension,) then DFA's him.

He seems to do just enough to keep the fans hopeful or just mildly angry. (Of course a few are very angry, but are there enough of them?)

C'mon, these are not JH type of decisions.  On the higher end, maybe you clear Bregman or Devers.  But I seriously doubt JH has any opinion whatsoever on guys like Buehler.

Williams becomes a Closer Lifeboat.

I mean, if you can’t count on the Titanic, how can you count on the lifeboats?

Dude, did you make that up?  Because I hadn't heard that before.  I'm going to start using it, simply because no one will know what I am talking about, so they will simply nod in agreement.

I wasn't being passive aggressive. It's just you've been arguing most of the day for Schwarber, but if you're not bothered about how the roster shapes up with him on there, then there's no point me being either (in response to your arguments).

No biggie.

Plus, I don't think there's any chance NYC go for him.

At some point, I'd like to see projected rosters, expected trades and payroll.  There seems to be a whole lot of "let's sign Alonso, Bichette, Bregman and Cease' out there (no one in particular).

well, i mean

Duran
Marte
Carroll
Schwarber

1-4

Competes with any team.  You have to be really bad everywhere else and we arent and wont be.

That being said Ill fall back to Crochet and 4 dont cares.

Competing with any team in the 1-4 slot is weak tea if you cannot compete anywhere else.

Drew, I get hoping for the world, but getting 2 boppers is a long shot.

Three is La-La-Land. I hate breaking it to you, because I'd love something that bold.

Way too much time wasted in this thread on trades that will almost never happen.

But I'd much rather acquire another #1 type pitcher than an extra bopper.

We need both and can afford both- financially and/or with trade capital.

It's the 3rd or 4th adds that are more questionable or less likely.

We can trade for Ryan and sign Alonso. We'd be significantly under the first tax line. Our rotation would be better. replacing Duran with Alonso would be a plus, but it comes down to the 3rd add: losing Bregman without a replacement negates the Alonso/Duran gain.

I'm not projecting Alonso, Bregman and Ryan, but we can reasonably do that and not be way over the tax line or have to empty the farm to do it.

I have low expectations but high hopes. Maybe they are dreams not hopes.

Two boppers is fine, so long as we get at least a #2 SP.

Ill fall back even further to 1-4 + Crochet + 3 strong BP pitchers.

I agree, I dont think JH is as micromanagey as people seem to think.  THe cheapest thing he did was hire Bloom, but Bloom kind of had a glow-up.  Because those years were a bit frustrating, but he did rebuild the farm. And I cant hate JH for wanting a change of direction after DD.  The DD years were great, but sometimes its just time to change course (similar to when we had to move on from Tito or even Bill B). But I think a lot of the patience and not spending and sititng around waiting on prospects to develop was Bloom over JH

And I think he hired Breslow because nobody else would take the job, haha. Breslow was like our 6th choice.

But I can hate JH for reasons that Billey Eilish so elegantly put (which I do) and I can hate him for buying the pittsburgh f'ing penguins (which i do x2)

Is this sarcasm?  It could go either way..

Am I wasting time if I am putting together trade packages for my favorite players in baseball even if I know they arent going to happen? That being said, I know I went too far yesterday pounding the table all day on why we need Schwarber and Corbin Carroll.

I had no idea Billie Eilish hated John Henry…

"Low expectations of reaching high hopes" would be a great name for a modest mouse album

At the WSJ Innovator Awards, Billie Eilish delivered a speech questioning why people are billionaires and urging them to "give your money away, shorties". She announced she would donate $11.5 million from her tour to organizations fighting food inequity and climate change, in front of wealthy attendees like Mark Zuckerberg. The speech, delivered in late October 2025, asked for empathy and help for those in need during a "really bad and really dark" time.

Im with Billie.

If you are a billionaire than instantly give away (or even spend) enough money so that you are no longer hoarding a billion OR pray that you never run into me

Do you realize that if the Re Sox signed Schwarber, Bichette and trade for  Ryan, there would still be a sizeable payroll gap between us and the yankees?

But only because Panic at the Disco! dropped the ball by not using it first…

100%. I see one big bopper as slightly more important than a #2SP, but we need both 100%.

Here's my thinking:

We lost Devers and Bregman. We can't count Anthony as a replacement because he had over 300 PAs in '25. Maybe 1/2? Who else do we have? Mayer? Garcia? Returning Casas or Masa?

We lost Gio (ouch) and Buehler (yuck) and have these guys to take up some slack: Crawford, Sandoval, Harrison plus more from Dobbins, Early, Tolle and maybe more. While none of those guys look like #2s, they look better than our in house big bopper replacement.

I'd like to see...

Ryan or Lodolo type as minimum

Alonso, K Marte or Schwarber

Bregman, Bichette or Polanco as a sideways move from 2025.

Yes, which is why you fit in here so well…

We all have moments of grandeur.

I know who she is, but only because of some of her rather unusual interviews.  And I am not a hockey fan.  So that stuff doesn't bother me.
