That’s just WONDERFUL Max!

He’s still a bum with a bat. He’s not good enough. He’s just like JBJ when he started sucking-only good as a late inning defensive replacement.

WAR don't lie.  His 4.3 is ranked 34th in MLB.  Mookie's is 4.8.  Manny Machado's is 3.9.

He has the 3d highest WAR on the team because he is the best centerfielder in MLB, which we saw again tonight.  It would be madness to bench that good a centerfielder.   Plus his OPS, 696, is ranked `130th in MLB,  Given 30 teams, not too shabby.

Stop with WAR.  Honestly it’s irrelevant.  It’s about stepping up and making an impact when it counts.  WAR doesn’t account for that

That’s just wonderful!

Hows his OPS nowadays?

Our problem is scoring runs and he can’t help.

Rafaela has had how many big hits this season?

WAR counts. But when all your WAR is from defense and your team can’t score your defense is of secondary importance.
It’s embarrassing I have to explain this to some posters here.

His OPS for the year is under .700. That’s fine if you play great defense AND you are on a team of mashers.
We don’t have mashers.

That’s not Rafaela’s problem though. He is what he is. That is on Breslow for roster construction

It’s the TEAM’S problem.
And I agree that Breslow didn’t do his job

WAR is imperfect, but it's the best estimation going for a player's total value.  It even allows comparing pitchers to lineup players.  Thus does Crochet's 5.6 make him easily the MVP of these Sox.

Speaking of "stepping up and making an impact," what in sam hill do you make of that grab he made earlier in the game?  Chopped liver?

It’s about ball sack  WAR is another insulated meaningless stat.  Rafael’a is the last guy I want at the plate when it counts the most.  Literally the last.

Cedanne misjudged that line drive but was good enough to recover. He was about 1' from a big error

I apologize for calling you stupid. I was being too kind.

I apologize for calling you a moron. A moron is defined as having an IQ of 51-70.
An imbecile is more accurate-IQ of 25-50. And that’s being kind.

WAR is good at evaluating a player over the season. Rafaela is not a good hitter, but he can still be a good player. He hits 9th, its not like he’s hitting high in the lineup.

Look, you’re smart enough to realize that you can’t look at Rafaela in a vacuum. If he was the only black hole-or if there was only one or two more even-and everyone else was an offensive force-that’s fine. But on THIS TEAM we simply can’t afford him.
