So, sign Alonso, G Torres and trade Abreu, Crawford & Clarke for Ryan and then Campbell, Sandlin and Mullins for Keller.

1. Duran LF

2. Anthony RF

3. Story 3B

4. Alonso 1B

5. Casas-Romy DH

6. Torres 2B

7. Mayer 3B

8. Narvaez C

9. Rafaela CF

Bench: Wong, Jh Garcia, DHam, Yoshida

SP: Crochet, Ryan, Bello, Keller, Sandoval

[Tolle, Dobbins, Early, Harrison, Fitts, Criswell. Perales]

RP: Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Weissert, Bernardino, Moran, Guerrero, Hicks

[Murphy, Kelly, Winckowski, Mullins, SP'er]

I am not trying to be rude, but the trades you proposed are NOT even close to being realistic. Mitch Keller has a trade value of 72.4 according to BTV trade value chart, Campbell, Sandlin, and Mullins combined add up to 22.6. This doesn't even account for the fact that a small market team like Pitt is not going to take on a $60million contract for an unproven prospect that looked incredibly overmatched in their stint in MLB.

I doubt it, I think he wants the security of a 5 year deal for his final MLB contract.

I agree. He must be thinking he won't get a big offer after 3 years.

The $120M/3 vs $175M/5 comp, shows' he'd need to make $55M/2 or more (like $70M/3?) to break even. He'll be going into his 35 year old season after 3 years.

I don't pay for BTV, so I don't have their data. Good point, but I don't think they view KC's contract, since the annual cost is not bad, as a minus. We could give them Jh Garcia and maybe up the pitching quality to Dobbins and Paez plus Sandlin or Mullins, but I'm sure BTV dislikes that one, too.

What did BTV think of my MN offer?

Maybe a 3 year guarantee plus vesting options based on games played.  Or something like that...

Think he cannot get a better offer?

Keller has a surplus value of $16.8mill, not $72.4mill, per BTV.  Campbell alone has a surplus value of $32.9mill on that same site.  Sandlin ($4.8mill) and Mullins ($2.3mill) alone are nearly half the value…

I thought $72M seemed out of whack.

While 5 is rich, I'd get it  if the team wanted to do it, but 3-4 feels better to me.  I am all for a Mayer succession plan but Mayer has to, like, be able to play more than 100 baseball games.

It's not that.  I have expressed my Pollyanna belief that he prefers Boston.

72 sounded high!

Bregman is at 100, now, but I agree. No way I pencil in Mayer as our FT 3B for even 2026, let alone 5 years. We'd need a viable plan B for 3B, and we still need a 2Bman- like for forever!

At this point I really don't care if he stays or opts out. Maybe I'll feel different before the season ends.

I would really like to see him back next year.  I think he's a great influence on the young guys.  That said, I wouldn't give him more than one additional year.

I am always hopeful that our current players, guys like Bregman and Giolito, would prefer to remain in Boston and would be willing to leave some money on the table to do so.  More often than not, I end up disappointed.
