The 1971 Baltimore Orioles had four 20 game winners.  However, I feel the Atlanta Braves 4 of Maddox, Glavine, Avery, and Smoltz might have been more talented.  What do you think was the Red Sox best 4?

I’d go with the 1915 staff of Rube Foster, Dutch Leonard, Ernie Shore, and some scrub named Ruth.  They also had Smoky Joe Wood start a bunch of games as well.

Now, for people I’ve actually seen, 1978 had Eckersley, Jenkins, Tiant and Lee.

Realized that Google has taken a lot of fun out of  "Do you Remember Questions".  However, my response to the Sox question is if Roger and Pedro are not included --------

Right, my first thought was 1999 or 2000 Sox, with Pedro and anyone else.

Don't know for sure who the other guys are without looking them up, because it doesn't matter.

The 1954 Cleveland Indians.

Feller 13-3

Garcia 19-8

Lemon  23-7

Wynn  23-11

The Red Sox haven't had a 4 man staff that competes with this list since perhaps 1915.

There will never again be a team with four 20 game winners for two main reasons; a five man staff and the fragility of today's starting pitchers.

I guess you could also add the pitch count as another reason.

Some of the best Sox 4 SP'ers in a given season that maybe nobody will mention:

1975: Tiant 4.02, Lee 3.95, Wise 3.95, Moret 3.60

1978 (5) : Tiant 3.31, Torrez 3.96, Eckersley 2.99, Lee 3.46, Wright 3.57

1986: Clemens 2.48, Seaver 3.80, Hurst 2.99, Boyd 3.78

1990: Clemens 1.93, Boddiker 3.36, Bolton 3.38, Harris 4.00

2002: Pedro 2.26, Lowe 2.58, Wake 2.81 & Fossum 3.46

The 1981 rotation did not have great numbers, but wow: Eck, Torrez, Tanana, Tudor, Ojeda

I watched an Indians-Senators doubleheader the following summer, 1955, at Griffith Stadium and when they were still pretty much intact.  After the game, I ran out onto the field and grabbed the rosin bag, but didn't keep it very long.

In 1954 the Indians went 111-43 and had the highest winning percentage in AL history.  But got killed by the Giants in the WS, 4 games to none.

It was in one of those world series games that Mays made that great catch of the ball hit by Vic Wertz at the Polo Grounds. In fact, that catch could have only been made at the Polo Grounds. I believe CF was 450 feet from home plate.

I just checked. CF wall at the Polo Grounds was 483 feet from home plate. Vic's fly ball traveled 420 feet.

It looks like more than 420 in the films/replays.  Willie's my all-time fav.

Apparently there were two sections of the CF wall. The wall where Willie was running toward when he made the catch was 450 feet. Just to the left is the deepest part of CF at 483 feet.

I saw quite a few games at the old Polo Grounds. The Say Hey Kid could cover center field as well or better than anyone. He made the basket catch famous.  Another oddity about that ballpark was that the dugouts did not to connect to the clubhouses. The clubhouses were behind center field. When a player left the game, he had to walk all the way through the outfield to reach the clubhouse.  In addition to the Giants, a number of championship fights were held in that ballpark. Memories of a bygone era.
