Only 43.1 scoreless innings to go before Fitts can match Hershiser's record.

Fitts is a rookie, so maybe a better comp is Fernando Valenzuela... who set a few records as a rookie.

Richard has a 0.00 ERA in his first 15.2 IP, so only needs another 2.1 scoreless to best Fernando's 17.2 scoreless in 1980 at age 19 (in 10 games, all in relief).

Of course, FernandoMania was still eligible as a rookie the next year, when he became a starter in a strike-shortened season and led the NL in shutouts (8), innings pitched, complete games, strikeouts, and won Rookie of the Year, Cy Young, Silver Slugger and the World Series.

I actually like Fernando, so it's hard for me to compare Fitts to him. Maybe we can go with MondoDick?

A potential 5 game win streak on tap ?? Who knew what these guys are capable of ?

I will say that watching the smoothness and timing of Story at SS and Grissom at 2B on a DP ball  is miles and away beyond Valdez and Hamilton.

Look for the Jays to lay down again tonight.

That team has tried to lay down every year since they hired Montoyo in 2019. Feel like they "won" a lot of trade deadlines and offseasons, but have generally underperformed expectations considering the roster.

I believe this would be the 4th 5 game win streak of the year. They have not had a 6 game win streak.

I would literally scream if they run the table after making some late, late season sit-downs of guys who physically couldn't play anymore this year.   The 3rd WC is a joke, but it is a ticket to the event, and you can't win it all if you are not there.

Of course it might be hard to find a set of pitchers for a WC game.  Could have been an Opener type game, lol

If they make a run at it, they are destined to fall one game short.

I would expect the Rays to play tougher than the hapless Jays just based on the type of manager they have. But the Sox could well win out. Then, check the out of town scores.

Theo still owns a retainer on Bruce Chen to start one game if they make it. I think he pearl jammed with him one weekend.

"Someday, and that day may never come," said Epstein, "I may ask a favor in return..."

Hate to break it to all of you, but scoreless means exactly that; no runs allowed, period.  Fitts has allowed 2 runs, albeit unearned.  Fernando’s record is safe for now

Fitts may have to accept the fact that he has allowed 2 unearned per Illinois,  but his performance in his starts, including today, seem to show that he has a serious shot at helping this team going into 2025.  His motion and command looks like that of a pitcher, not just a thrower

Fitts, who has now allowed  multiple earned runs, should be chastised and castigated by the Red Sox faithful for not setting any records at all in his 4 starts.   What a sham. Send him him back to WooSox or even the Yankees as damaged goods

Knowing the SOX need relief pitchers, would you include Mayer in a trade to acquire Mason Miller from the A's?

Why not just acquire the whole A's franchise, keep what we could use and send the remains  "return postage' to Las Vegas or Sacramento where that woe begotten ballclub will need to hide for awhile.

What is the chance of trading for that fat beer league softball catcher Alejandro Kirk before he does more damage to the Sox. ?

First base was open for both Vlad and Kirk, the two hottest hitters on the Jays and the 'genius' Cora has Fitts pitch to both of them.

How about trading Cora and Mayer to the A's for Miller.

Kirk is definitely a better defensive catcher than Wong. In fact, Wong is rated near the bottom as a defensive catcher.

Isn't this game the dreaded "mathematically eliminated"  finale to 2024?   Even if the Sox make a comeback and win, Tigers and Royals are both winning after 6 in their games with a 3.5 game lead ?

It has been an interesting season.  Now we can let some of the young guys play vs Rays and have some fun.   Oh wait, they have been playing all year. Maybe that's why it's time to book a few tee times for next week.

Wong initially appeared last year to be able to throw out Superman trying to steal but his overall defense and ability to block or even hold on to pitches has deteriorated this year.
