Houck last 5 starts: 26 IP, 4.15 ERA, 4.27 FIP, 1.35 WHIP

Gomber last 5 starts: 30 IP, 5.40 ERA, 4.85 FIP, 1.27 WHIP

Gomber overall at home 2024: 3.54 ERA, 1.18 WHIP

I am now learning that the closer for the Rockies is Jalen Freakin' Beeks. At 1.324 Beeks has the Rockies' bullpen's best WHIP. Hopefully, the Sox can be ahead going into the 9th inning each game so they don't have to deal with him!!!

A series win must be the minimum, and a sweep would help significantly clean up the Dodger losses. Expecting another quality start from Tanner. Not sure what Crawford did over the break but he was groovin' it yesterday.

Houck vs Gomber

Sox lead the league with k rate vs LHP at 30%!

Thanks for starting the game thread.

I agree with everyone who says the Sox need to win at least 2 of these Rockies games. Houck should give the Sox the edge, but of course Gomber is a lefty, so Cora is going with six righty bats--

Duran CF

Ref LF

Wong C

Devers 3B

O'Neill RF

Yoshida DH

Gonzalez 1b

Rafaela CF

Westbrook 2b

Right now--as I keep whining about--the Sox bullpen stinks, and Jansen didn't come to Denver because of the altitude and how it energizes his atrial fib.

So, unless Houck goes ape and pitches an 8 or 9 inning gem, the Sox probably need to score at least 5 runs.

I heard the Dodgers DFA'ed Paxton today. Thanks for pitching him this weekend, LAD.

Do we need Paxton redux ?

For some reason, all this talk about hor bad COl at this and that, does not make me feel any better.

I know what you mean. Sox split with the White Sox.

They must have DFA'd Paxton for giving up 2 runs against the SOX as a left hander.

I highly doubt the SOX will pick up Paxton having recently gotten rid of him. But if he hadn't already been a member of the SOX, they would grab him in a NY minute. Because that's how the recent version of the SOX operate.

When I say recent. I mean the last few years.

In fact DFA should be changed to DFB-Destined For Boston.

Heard some SOX talking heads mention today the SOX priority s/b a RH bat.

As for another starter and BP help, most stated that Cora could make what they already have work.

It was mentioned that it would be nice to get a starter, but not the priority. As for the BP, they mentioned the SOX BP was no better or worse than any other team's BP. That every contender was looking for BP help.

Easy solution: coax Porcello out of retirement. He could throw a late inning and bat righty, like when he crushed a bases-loaded double off Scherzer. Or get Beckett back. He hit a homer against the Cubs.

That would give the SOX 2 Ohtani's.

The SOX have 4 prospects in the top 100, and the FO has made it pretty clear they're not trading any of them.

Well, when it goes to pot , it all goes to pot. Houck ineffective tonight and once again, the team cannot hit a LH'er. Two of the hits were blind luck or a swinging bunt. But the Hr wasn't.

If all other teams left on the schedule employ LH'ers it is possible to never win another game.

Neither Houck or Kutter have pitched the number of innings they've pitched so far this season. I think we're starting to see the effects of that.

Or maybe the thin air is effecting Houck's stuff.

Well, let's see. Bello was OK and Pivetta was excellent against the Dodgers. But our two best, Crawford and Houck, not so much. Crawford gave up 5 dingers, and so far Houck has given up 4 runs in 2.1 IP.

Oh, and once again the Sox simply cannot hit a lefty pitcher.

Plus the Dodgers proved the Sox have literally no bullpen.

What's left? Defense! I don't think the Sox gave up any unearned runs in LA.

They really needed 7 or 8 innings from Houck tonight. He is at 53 pitches after 3, and looking very hittable. The thinner air doesn't let his slider break as much.

Hey, Vegas, if the SOX FO and ownership don't give a rat's behind, why should we?

The defense hasn't been the problem of late. Never thought I'd say that.

The air was even thinner in LA.

I think you got it on the first comment. Crawford and Houck could be tired.
