Been in Mexico the last few days, scouting starting pitchers who have green cards. Found some real beauties for Breslow.

Anything much happening the last few games ?

Just might be that Devers is the man on this team. I have done more than my fair share of complaining about him, but he has the career OPS, .859, and this year's OPS which is even higher--.942. I think he passed Rafaela for the team lead in rbi last week and quite obviously is determined not to give it back.

Given the last two games, that dinger was gigantic.

So far the knuckle baller is getting the calls--at least two balls were called strikes. Winck, on the other hand, couldn't get a strike on a ball in the strike zone.

Maybe Yoshi should have gone, the throw was from Cf was poor, but you don't know that and Masataka's first few steps are not lightning bolts.

Devers definitely went through 2 slump periods this season, but clearly has broken out the big bat over tthe past week, looking like the hitting leader on this team. Today's 2 run HR was key to get a lead in support of a good effort by Wink so far. He's not unhittable, But the defense is not costing him unearned runs.

I would like to see a comparative metric on Valdez's range at 2B.

WINckowski with the nice start today. Had him pegged as a bullpen arm, seems stretching him out in AAA may pay dividends

Wakdron is a RH who throws a knuckler 40% of the time. Should be fun.

He seems to have a mix of knuckle balls. Some of them definitely don't move much and are hit hard. Others really move and are uncatchable.

Hamilton and Valdez have some throwing issues. Dom Smith has saved several off line , in the dirt throws from them, as long as Dom's elbow is not extended and vulnerable.

A nod is as good as a Wink. A nod out to Wink for a very good job today.

He only threw 58 pitches. His last time out, he threw 91 in relief--6 innings, 2 ER.

Let’s not leave out that he also had good D behind him.

Neither Hamilton nor Valdez is much of a defender. Hamilton might be an acceptable 2b. Valdez is probably a LF or DH…

An essential win and they did it. After 3 straight games allowing 9 or more runs, this was a good show. Odd that it took Winckowski to turn the pitching back in the right direction. Need to win the Miami series for sure.

Masa of late has had some good at bats. Imho, he is a good hitter when he stays healthy.

I gave 5 reasons for keeping Yoshida and even playing him, and one of them was that we know he was a good hitter in Japan.

I like Yoshida, but his approach in the states isn’t what I expected after seeing his stats in Japan. He’s a good hitter I expected more from. He’s a bad fielder. And it’s not hard to see why a lot of fans are frustrated with him…

exactly. i'd love for him to be the next Ichiro but ....it ain't happening. i know my frustrations stems from the fact that guys with his current stats are a dime a dozen and we spent a ton of money on him that should have gone for pitching.
