I know there's a lot of season remaining, but long time SOX fans like myself have to be experiencing culture shock. I mean when has it ever been said that a SOX team will only go as far as their pitching takes them. I'm guessing never during my time as a fan.

Well, a lot of us said it last year, when the starting pitching -- or lack of starting pitching -- was taking them to last place.

Williams hit 43 homers his last year in the minors, while Dalbec hit 33 HRs last year in the minors.

These Ted Williams lifetime numbers never get boring:

BA=.344

OBP=.482

SLG=.634

OPS=1.116

OPS+=191

HITS=2654

WALKS=2021

Because of his discipline(stubbornness?) not to swing at anything outside the strike zone, Ted never had a 200 hit season, although he did get 190+ hits in two seasons.

Meh. I think the pitching this year is huge, but I do not believe the Sox can make the postseason without some hitting, by which I mean better than we've seen.

And you just might be the guy who turned that spigot on.

Last night's pitching was terrific, but so were those 5 runs. Ditto tonight--great pitching and two crucial runs driven in. And now we need at least one more run.

OK, some hitter or another needs to step up now and rescue this excellent pitching effort . Make it happen, Cap'n

Williams urged the Hall of Fame to open its doors to Negro League stars, and Dalbec's walk-up song is actually by The Doors.

'Break On Through' never happened, but 'The End' did.

So , it was Abreu who answered the Call to Duty. Great hit, and the chance for more, Of Course, his stupid baserunning, or overrunning puts a damper on the inning

We had to write a theme a week in senior English (high school), and one of mine was on your namesake. Title was, "My Middle Name." I did make a big deal about serving in both wars even though he never went overseas in WW II. I did not realize how smart he was. He was talented--great reflexes and eyesight--but he was also a real student of hitting.

Sox up 3-2 on a timely rally by the new guys--Rafaela, Duran, and Abreu.

I keep reading these long speeches about what a great 8th inning guy Whitlock is. I'd rather use Martin.

Great play by Martin on the groundout.

Duran bringing back memories of early Ellsbury.

Jacoby was better at a young age. Took 2 bases on a passed ball. Stole home. Took so-so routes to the ball. Had no arm. Had a career year in 2011, including over 30 dingers. His WAR that year was 8.0, which later caused the Yankees to sign him to a ridiculous contract in 2013 after they didn't re-sign Robinson Cano.

Call me crazy, but I dread bringing Jansen in to close the 9th. He over-relies on that cutter and gave up 2 runs his last time out 5 days ago.

Solo HR #36.

"Duran and McGuire just a getting higher in Tampa, ya know where that's at. And no one's getting fat except Henley."

I went to the local law school library not long ago and looked up solo dingers. They are not a criminal offense--at least not here in North Carolina. How about in Tampa?

When you get 5 runs with just 7 hits, solo shots are actually OK.

Every ball except for the final out was hit like it was BP. Got to try and get some value in return for him at the deadline.

Didn't see the double steal. Why didn't they just tag Devers out with 2 outs?

He stopped. Also, the SS caught the throw inside the basepath pursuant to throwing back to home. Tagging Devers was going to be tricky.

Oh, yeah.

I've got no problem with solo's; I'm just interested in how many they'll hit this season. It is an unusually high number at this point in the season.
