Now, it is Cora's turn. Why is Wink still out there ina "lost" game after 43 p[itches and 3 consecutive hits. Now Wink is burned for at least another day if not 2.

 

He was still in there because Kaleb Ort is no longer on the team.

I'd say the SOX are 7-4 because of the early competition. Btw, I'm pretty sure 7-4 is better than anyone here expected.

 

Angels are 6-4, Mariners 4-6, and A's 3-7. If you take out the 10 games against the Sox, the Angels would be 4-3, the Mariners 2-4, and the A's 3-4. And let's not forget that historically the Sox have not done well starting the season on the West Coast.

 

And I don't care who you are going against, an ERA of 1.49 is pretty terrific even for just 10 games.

I agree. The problem for the SOX is that they play 52 games against AL East opponents. Move the SOX to the Central or West and we're probably talking an above .500 team. One thing's for sure, they wouldn't finish in last.

 

Btw, losing Story for the entire season definitely hurts the SOX pitching and makes winning 80 games, which many predicted, just that much tougher. And I'm just referring to his defense.

Is AC taking a shot at the Ownership/FO by letting Wink take the long......relief through the 9th , as he did last year ?

 

Just remember we get the Angels back BEFORE the team can slip to .500, so there's that.

 

I can think of 2 reasons for leaving him in: 1) eat up the innings so that the rest of the bullpen is well rested for the next several games; 2) stretch him out--he threw 65 pitches--because we just a lost a starter.

Losing Story probably does hurt the pitching, but the rest of the defense is already doing plenty of damage.

 

I didn't say that about the Sox playing the AL East 52 games, so allow me to say, "good point." I said it a lot last year and promptly forgot about it.

 

Right now the winningest division in MLB is the NL Central: Pitt 9-3, Milwaukee 6-3, Cincy 6-4, Cubs 6-4, and Cards 5-6--overall +12. AL East is + 10.

Bello, who struggled in both starts against ragamuffin teams on the West Coast, went 5.1 innings yesterday while giving up just 1 freaking unearned run, easily his best start of the year.

 

The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our pitching, but in our hitting and rotten defense, that they are underlings.

O's pitcher is one of the best starters in baseball.

As Moon says, it's not just the actual scored errors, it's the plays not made . Did no one see that the O's runner had a clear sailing to 3rd ? Also I think Winckowski has a 2 out pitching problem

 

I do agree non-error plays can hurt.

 

In his first three appearances--this was his fourth--Winckowski pitched 5 innings while giving up 0 earned runs. Those 4 unearned runs on April 5 were because against the Angels Rafaela and Valdez decided to take the day off on defense. Rafaela dropped an easy pop fly and Valdez a throw to 2b.
