We really need those nice surprises like Duran and O'Neill stepping up bigly.

We need the hit starts of O’Neill and Duran to cover for the cold starts by Devers and Casas…

Lighting a candle for TON’s continued health.

Casas looks great at the plate to me, just not getting the results yet.

Worried about Devers's shoulder and now his hand as well.

f***ing injuries!

Good job by Jansen against 3-4-5

Wasn't he amazing? Just two days ago I was reading right here on talksox that all he does is walk people.

We are nothing if not over-reactors. Me too of course.

It’s been really bad defense. The pitching overall has been fine

The pitching has been insanely good. This staff is simply unrecognizable because they all wear Red Sox uniforms.

This might be an over-reaction too. :)

Is it even possible for anonymous typists with metaphorical handles who carp back and forth with device screens every day?

Maybe a better phrasing would be: "If this was normal human behavior we're engaging in, it might be an over-reaction."

Just finished watching the rest of the game, this morning.

WOW! What a game.

The D really let us down, but we picked it up and atoned.

Keep the streak going, guys! One day at a time.

I get the concerns with Jansen being older and having some injury issues, but watching people complain about him when literally less than two years ago we had to watch Hansel Robles attempt to close games is pretty funny. Jansen isn’t in his prime, but this is a borderline hall of fame pitcher who still has something left in the tank.

Agreed. We also have to remember, he missed most of ST'ing, so maybe he settles down as we move forward.

Our pen has not been praised as much as it should be.

Joely is the only one to have bad numbers, but he had a really bad first game and has not been that bad, afterwards.

Our pen has a .491 OPS Against, and it's interesting to note that our best 2 RP'ers have not been in top form.

Jansen has half our pen's BBs (5 out of 10!)

Martin has the second worst OPSA (to Joely) at .652, after leading the team in this

category in 2023.

Jansen & Wink have 8 of our 10 BBs. The rest have 2 BBs in 84 PAs!

I really think the improved defense has helped these numbers and the confidence/morale of the staff, but Brez & Bailey deserve some props, too.

Kenley Jansen has 423 saves. A career ERA of 2.51 . And a WHIP of less than 1.00. One of the all time best closers. But Sox fans will be Sox fans.

He even has a career 2.20 post season ERA with 20 saves. He’s had a hell of a career

I’m not a big “elite closer” guy, and Jansen is clearly winding down a career that might put him in Cooperstown. But even if you don’t agree with the closer strategy, you still need good pitchers in the bullpen. And Kenley still is one..

True. He is still really good, but he's not the guy from long ago. His WHIPM has been over his career average, every year since 2018, but it is still has been very good : 1.077 (2018-2024)

11.2 K/9

3.2 BB/9

2018-2024: 350 qualifying RP'ers

11th in RP fWAR (6.2)

38th K% (30.4%) but 156th in BB% (8.7%) 32nd in K-BB% (21.6%)

65th K/9 (3.48)

64th ERA- (75)

110th in xFIP (3.88)
