For RHP Drew Thorpe (recently acquired in the Juan Soto trade), RHP Jairo Iriate and possibly more.

Odd off-season the Padres. Unloading Soto and then acquiring Cease, only controlled one year longer than Soto, with the return.

I guess it was all about nothing more than saving money with SD. They’re clearly not rebuilding.

Hopefully they can get the White Sox to include an actual outfielder. Maybe Oscar Colas?

Padres have really been bringing the wacky the last few years.

Preller is trying to save his job. Adding pitching in the short term can't hurt.

What did BTV think of this trade?

Did they predict it ahead of time though?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I came close with one I posted, but I added in Colas and Dillon Head into the deal. (It helped that Thorpe, Iriarte and Wilson were already announced.)

Dylan Cease last 3 games

22IP, 30K, 2H

Was the Cease trade worth it for San Diego? Three of the prospects he was swapped for are now in the White Sox' Top 10, and the fourth guy is an MLB reliever with a positive WAR on a negative club.

To get an idea of comparative value, Mayer-Anthony-Teel all have overall prospect rankings of 55 or better. Only one from the Cease package is 55: Drew Thorpe.

How many teams have 3 prospects over 55, or even over 45?

ChiSox wanted Bello for Cease. Should've done it.

I'm not entirely sure being in the Top Ten of the White Sox farm is a huge honor and a precursor to a bright future...
