Baseball America just updated their rankings:

-Marcelo Mayer (10)

-Roman Anthony (18)

-Kyle Teel (31)

-Braden Montgomery (63)

-Kristian Campbell (99)

Luis Perales no longer in top 100 due to injury.

I kind of expected Campbell to be higher, but his approach does leave a lot of questions and concerns on how he translates to higher level play.

Still: not bad having 4 in the top 63, 5 in the top 100 and guys like Perales, Cespedes and maybe Bleis poised to make jumps in the EOY rankings or by mid-season 2025.

Of course, we won't know how these higher ranked prospects do in MLB for at least a year or so, but it's encouraging to see some high hopes on the horizon.

Bleis has a 548 OPS in GRE. My worry is that he's another overhyped DSL guy from SoxProspects (see: A Flores, G Jimenez).

Helcris Olivarez released. When I saw him in ST, I got the full Olivarez experience. Rough.

@ByAndrewParker

I don't think people truly understand how crazy it was that Helcris Olivarez had a 12.50 BB/9 yet had an ERA of 3.50 this year for Portland...

@Jared_Carrabis

Amongst all the players at the Double-A level who have played at least 35 games, Red Sox prospect Kristian Campbell leads the league in average (.395), OBP (.497), WOBA (.470), and is third in OPS (1.094).

Meidroth just keeps hitting and getting on base. Maybe one day he will get appreciated

He's been really impressive.

The issues are his defense and whether MLB pitchers wont be afraid to challenge him with strikes.

He wont walk in the bigs, unless he can hit.

Riemer went 3-5 in a loss (.978.)

Anderson HR'd and walked in the ongoing SAL game. Arias 1-2.

Riemer is not being challenged at all in the Complex League. I'd probably send him straight to GRE and have him take the fulltime 2B job from Ravelo when the FCL season ends in the next few days.

Also, a lot of expected growing pains with Anderson as he should be a Lowell guy.

April 375 OPS

May 528 OPS

June 687 OPS

July 733 OPS

It's a similar trajectory to what we saw out of HS draftee Cutter Coffey in his first full season last year. Sometimes these HS guys can jump like Roman Anthony, sometimes they need an extra few years to get there.

Or trade Valdez, promote Campbell to AAA and every other 2Bman down the line.

Reimer to Salem.

I actually think his defense is ok. He's not a SS, but he's good enough to fake it at 2b/3b in the bigs as a UTIL type guy. His power is on par with Marty Barrett but with more walks. Just not enough doubles to really keep him super relevant. He'll get on base, but isn't a speed guy.

Campbell is really splitting time at 2B/SS/CF in POR for various reasons. He's not a fulltime 2B.

Has he played enough 2B to know enough?

@Hunter_Noll

Wikelman Gonzalez has hit 97 on the scoreboard radar a few times already.

And that high-70s curveball has looked nasty.

Not the best season so far, but the stuff is still there (and he’s looked better lately).

More 2B than Campbell.

Did not answer the question.

Meidroth GS by positions:

89 3B

59 2B

52 SS (indicates he can't be all that bad on D)

13 DH

(102 MI/ 102 3B/DH) 50% (29% at 2B)

Campbell

47 2B

22 CF

8 SS

4 LF

2 RF

(55 MI/28 OF) 66% (57% at 2B)

Meidroth would probably be better on D at 2B than Campbell and maybe even Yorke, but I'm not sure he can even top .333 in OBP in the bigs.

He has to be able to hit, in order to draw walks.

On the first point, you were the one who said he was bad on D. I thought he'd be adequate. He's playing SS at WOO due to the team's need, not because he's very good at it (18 starts at SS last season, 38 this season).

He will definitely need to prove it at the next level. Part of the reason that he's so successful at AAA is that he uses the challenge system to his advantage. Maybe he'll be able to do that same in MLB when it's available in 2026?

....you were the one who said he was bad on D...

Wrong. I said his "issues" are defense (thinking 2B not 3B) and whether he can carry over his OBP, if he can't prove he can hit MLB pitching.

I then said, "Is his sample size big enough" at 2B?

I still wonder.

Being better than Campbell and Valdez and maybe Yorke, too does not mean defense is not an issue.

To me, his 2B is largely unknown, but is probably adequate to decent.

You really know how to twist things.

I never said "Bad."

I added that his sample size is not large enough to know about his 2B defense.

I'm not taking the hit over your "confusion" or misquoting text.

Mayer go again today. Is he the next Chris sale in the always injured club?

@SoxProspects

Our @SPChrisHatfield reports that per a team source, SS Marcelo Mayer, who is missing his second game in a row today, is day-to-day with pectoral soreness.

Wikelman had a nice game (4IP 2H 1ER 1BB 5K)

Anthony 2-5 w 2B & BB

Campbell 0-3 w 2BB

Woo gut smashed in game 1 (8-1.)

Wilson pitched 4 no hit innings for DSL Blue.
