Houck vs Verlander

Welcoming Tanner back, though low expectations for his return in a tough matchup. Maybe he will look better than Paxton, who showed that he can't be effective on 4 days rest , but only if his defense shows up. ______ should have been __________ at the _____________.

Somewhat of another make or break game if the Sox are going to (re)gain any ground on Houston/Jays/Mariners .

Looks like Duran's toejam for his ill advised wall jump in NY may be a problem.

Let's get a bounceback after last night's bummer.

Duran hurt his toe running to 1st base. Based on Turner and now Duran, running to 1st base seems dangerous.

Turner masy be the only guy on this team that I would say that I respect his game and effort. The others generally are just playing without a lot of thought going into it.

He keeps his bat in the hitting zone longer than most players.

I believe Turner would make an excellent hitting coach after he retires. He has, imho, an almost perfect swing.

I agree, and posted as much last week. Turner adjusts depending on the count, and it would be great if he could adjust his teammates' approach accordingly.

F'ing Devers putting Tanner Houck, and every other Sox pitcher, on the pressure to not allow a ball to be hit towards him , plus Verlander played Raffy like a violin for a K

i assume Devers considers it redeeming to cutoff the SS at every opportunity and then be indecisive as to where to throw it. Lucky he got the force at 2B Edited by vegasbob

I’d visit him and take him out of the game on the spot

I remember in '78 when Billy Martin removed Reggie Jackson from RF for not hustling after a fly ball and how Reggie and Billy almost came to blows in the dugout.

But it was a different game back then.

Plus the 4 and 5 out innings eventually forces the BP to have to come on earlier. Houck may only get 3 innings even if he becomes settled down.

Devers reminds me a little bit of Greg Nettles. Nettles was a good hitter, but a really bad defensive 3rd baseman. He worked on his defense and became one of the top defensive 3rd baseman of his time. Whether that happens to Devers, at this point, doesn't seem likely, but ya never know.

after 7 seasons, he's still the worst defensive 3B in the league. unfortunately, i think the whole "work on his defense" ship has sailed for Raffy.
