That was an exciting ballgame. Back and forth right until the final out. I think some fans have become a little too jaded, unhappy , full of themselves , entitled or just plain churlish to appreciate and enjoy a good baseball game.

Pretty good comment and observation. Some of the problem is that the season is getting short and the Sox are more likely to miss the playoffs than make them. each game, each AB, play and pitch reinforces the potential success or failure.

You are right, that was a good game to watch, except for Schreiber who is not welcome in any way.

So, they knew he was paid off to fix the game for the Yanks?

It's not a case of payoff , just simple incompetence in front of a large audience .

Jansen's 29 saves and just 3 Blown Saves can be viewed as the major reason our record has flipped from 2022, and then some!!!

2023:

36 saves

10 blown saves

78%

2022:

39 saves

29 blown saves

57%

If Jansen has 3 of the blown saves, how many of the other 7 were by pitchers no longer employed by the Sox ? I'll look for the stats

Looks like Winckowski has 4 blown and Martin 1. Ort and Schreiber failed to earn the save in their 1 each opportunities.

When it always seems to benefit the Yanks, I think conspiracy.

Would the Yankees fire cashman based on year ? Anyone think cashman would get a job quickly as a GM?

Cashman will have multiple offers should he ever get fired…

I feel the same as well. He’s not a bad gm as people make him out to be. Yankees have had injuries and player’s underachieving this season.

FYI, 10 is tied with the Cubs for the FEWEST in the majors. The Sox lead MLB with a 78% success rate.

It’s sort of a mixed stat; the two teams who have the most blown saves are the Orioles and the Dodgers.

Many of those who declined were expected to decline due to aging and recent trends.

Many who got hurt had long histories of getting hurt.

True, the Yanks had some bad luck, but even with average luck, they'd be near .500 or a little above.

Btw, that Nationals' team the SOX were supposed to win 2 or 3 games against? They have the 3rd best record in MLB for the month of August and they're beating the Phillies right now 4-0. Sometimes looking at a team's season W/L record isn't the best way to value a team as opposition. How are they playing as your team enters a series with them. So the Nats taking 2 of 3 from the SOX wasn't a fluke. At the time of the series the Nats were the better team.

If a losing team wants immediate improvement without waiting 4 or 5 years, DD is your man. DD's motto "I believe in proven veterans and prospects are just trade bait." DD will spend a lot of money, clean out the farm, but the fans, who don't give a lick about the money or the farm, will have a contender before they can say Dave Dombrowski.

It’s a useless stat. A pitcher can get a blown save in any inning, but only a save in the final inning.

Last year, Ryan Brasier was credited with a blown save in the FIFTH INNING of a game vs Tampa. Do you know how hard it is to get a blown save in the fifth inning? And what does that have to do with the ability to close out games?

I said before the series started that, based on the Nats winning 45% of their games and the Sox 55%, the Nats were a good bet to take 1 of the 3 games. So 2 was not a big stretch. I did not know (and agree it's significant) that the Nats have been hot in August.

There is probably more randomness and more variables in baseball than in most other sports. Nothing is proven in any one baseball game. Or even in a three game series. That is just the nature of the game. In the long run , the better teams will probably prevail. But even that is not a certainty.

That's why the season is 162 games long.
