Strider(RH) vs Bello

Bello will need a bounce back performance tonight after his previous less than stellar start.

The Braves will have another good RH pitcher starting tonight. May the SOX continue abusing these RH's.

Tonight's game will be televised on ESPN. Don't blame me; I'm only the messenger.

Go SOX!

Great streak you have the team on, Splinter . A win tonight and the next 60 games would be a nice way to finish the regular season.

This latest streak is only 3 games, but all of them have been huge. Yes, the days off have helped, but it still boggles the mind that Cora is getting by with 3 starters and a wakeup (Pivetta) while Sale, Kluber, Houck, and Whitlock remain on the IL--and will likely do so for 2 more weeks.

If Bloom reads talksox and had to choose between keeping Splinter and keeping Cora, I think Cora would have to go. :) On the other hand, if word gets out to other blog sites, Splinter could bring in some pretty good prospects.

Rafael Devers 3B (127)

Yu Chang SS (60)

It would be a good step forward if Alex Verdugo can regain his earlier productive hitting form. Last 15 games (55AB's) have only produced a .477 OPS. He was a sparkplug at the top of the lineup previously, a role now nicely filled by Jarren Duran.

My last comment on the King of Pops, Kike: So nice to see a lineup that he is not in.

When Turner plays 2nd base, this SOX line-up can match up with any in MLB. Of course, I'm speaking offensively, although the defense has improved. SOX need to cut down on stupid base running.

All the credit goes to the SOX, who could have thrown in the towel when almost half the starters went down. Instead, most everyone in the BP stepped up and the offense has become more consistent. All we can hope is the SOX stay in PO contention until they get some pitchers back. If they can accomplish that, they will be very difficult to knock out of the PO's.

My last comment on the King of Pops, Kike: So nice to see a lineup that he is not in.

To remind: he filled a need because of all the infielders who ended up on the IL. I doubt that the Dodgers, who once again lead the NL West, expect great things from Kike, but they do see him filling a need.

You and many others appear to think Kike regularly lost games for the Sox, but the evidence says that's not true. When he played, the Sox won more often than they lost, 44-41. When he didn't play, the Sox also won more than they lost, 8-6.

True, of course. The players and their very capable manager did find ways to win, which they did again last night against the current best team in MLB, the former Boston Braves.

I'm less confident than you about the return of Sale, Kluber, Houck, and Whitlock. It it's good Sale, that will be huge. But I think Kluber's over the hill and Houck and Whitlock work best from the bullpen.

Shrider looks nasty.

Sure does. Almost all 99 mph fastballs which the Sox so far can't handle. Plus he is trying to work the corners.

Hello, Raffie, there's a baseball game going on right now and you're in it. Two misplays so far, but just one error.

My opinion, which ain't worth much, is that Bello has so far faced two extra batters thanks to Raffie's misplays.

37 year old Justin Turner, on the other hand, is paying attention and making good plays. Plus he reduced those two extra batters to just one. I agree that grounder was a tailor made GIDP.

Bello is really working hard to get an out doesn’t help with crappy fielding.

Agree. He is working the corners pretty well, but the Braves are fouling them off.

Yep; they are doing a really good job of making him throw a lot of pitches.

Strider OTOH is pounding the zone with nasty stuff.

5 outs so far and Strider has basically gone with a slider and that fastball--and has our guys struggling. Six outs and no solid contact by any Sox hitter.

Hope they find a way to adjust.

Bello still is not a No. 1 in my book, but he is a solid No 2 or legit No 3. which is not a bad thing. He could become a No. 1 though.
