Helped by a brain dead 2nd baseman

Kotsay either doesn't care, doesn't insist on fundamentals, or knows this is his last contract with Oakland. His guys need to be ripped, even if they have limited talent.

I wasn't paying attention. Didn't notice the catching change.

You are a streak starter , now with 4 days off. You'll probably forget and mess this thing up. WTFU

Kotsay signed a contract that stated he would be managing a MLB team. The contract was misleading.

Sean McDonough just summed Oakland up perfectly: they are playing the kind of baseball of a 25 win team.

To be fair, the A’s did recently have a 7 game win streak and had won their last 2 series, so they’ve been playing better than they are early this year. In fact, they’ve almost caught Kansas City in the race to avoid the worst record in MLB.

Splinter, so you don’t forget, start Friday’s Game Day thread now and edit it later this week.

Well, so be it. Another very nice win--closer than the others. Well done, Sox! Well done, SPLENDIDSPLINTER.

Cora is so lucky with the depth of talent on this team--and injury free to boot.

Sage advice.

That was a tremendous 5-1 homestand winning games against a good team and sweeping the terrible one. Only thing better is if another AL East team loses today. Only the NYY'ers are in position to do so right now. Jays, Rays and O's are winners

Another helpful tip among friends---the team is going to Chicago but it is the Cubs, not White Sox

I did post on the OP that this would be the most competitive game of the 3. That Sears is a good pitcher and deserves to be on a much better team.

Now with the draft in a couple hours, are all the high school SS's in America holding their breath for the 14th pick of Round 1 ?

Today's game is more of an indictment of how bad the A's are than anything else

No doubt. Look who we started and brought in, early.

We even rested Dugo before a 4 day break.

I played SS in high school. Should I stand by the phone?

No way. In high school I was all glove and no bat. Similar to Chang.

Me too. Except comparatively I make Chang look like Babe Ruth…

Right in the OP and right about Sears. He looked pretty good to me.

There's a lot of stats in regards to pitching. The one stat that impresses me the most is WHIP. When a pitcher has a WHIP near 1.00 that informs me that guy is pretty damn good.

I prefer OPS Against but for some reason, fangraphs doesn't provide it.
