I really do think that Bloom is looking at his current potential rotation which may or may not actually happen as being as good if not better than most - Sale- Bello - Paxton - Houck - Pivetta with everybody else in the pen could be very good. If you think that that is a pretty good group, why would you put together a trade that would cost you some pretty good players and possibly some pretty good prospects for anybody else? He has certainly added players to the farm unfortunately I don't see the next great arm down there. At some point in time, maybe not this season, some quality arms need to be added. Of the guys playing right now, Duran looks and is playing like one of the best athletes I have seen in a long time. He reminds me of a very young Yaz although just a little faster then the captain. Casas looks good and could be very good. As for anyone else, think I'd like to see them at the big league level before I go nuts over them.

A winning record is what counts the most, but only when/if it suits your argument. Got it.

Who said winning record does not count. I’ll answer it for you. Nobody.. I just said it is not always a barometer of how good someone is. Nice try though.

To me the Kut Man deserves to stay in the rotation, and Houck should go to the BP.

This post is bad, and you should feel bad.

Expanding on that I think the Red Sox are a better team this year compared to last year, and not because of better players, but, because the teams ahead of them are not as good as last, which makes them better. Like Moon said all the teams are flawed.

All teams had flaws, last year, too.

"Like I said...."

I agree teams had flaws last year too, but not as bad as this year. I don’t believe the Yankees, or Toronto are nowhere near as good this year, and Tampa is nowhere as good as they were early in the season. A wildcard spot is there for the taking now.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. The Yankees are cooked, but Toronto has actually underperformed, and Tampa is just a monster of a team. You made a dumb argument and now you have to actually downgrade the entire league in order to backpedal. Hilarious!

If you watch the Blue Jays enough you will see that they are not a very good team. The Orioles just beat them up in Toronto. Now they are without their best player ( Bichette) and their closer ( Romano ). It really should not be too hard to pass them in the standings. I fully expect the Sox to do that.

Toronto has not underperformed. They are where they should be. They are overrated if anything

They were last year, too.

BAL is way better- as is TEX and other teams.

This whole "watered down" excuse for why we look better is a cop out.

The same guy who blasted us for saying part of the reason we lost so many games, last year was because we played more games against good teams (due to unbalanced schedule) is now saying it's okay to credit our success to the easier schedule, due to the whole league getting worse than last year. You can't have it both ways.

To me, the league is more balanced not weaker. Talent has pretty steadily improved over the years, and with no expansion happening in a long time, players are better and better. I'm not sure I can remember so many super-stud young players as recently. The influx of quality foreign players has also been notable, especially from Japan.

Our team is better than this year, and not because JD and Bogey couldn't drive in runs against much better pitching, last year than we faced this year.

You can have it both ways. They did lose, because they played better teams last year. Toronto, and the Yankees were a lot better last year. Disagree if you want. Now if Toronto, and the Yankees aren’t as good this year especially the Yankees then you have a lot better chance to beat them, which they have, so if you want to call it both ways then so be it. The league is more balanced this year that we agree on, but why is where we don’t. As always it’s been a pleasure to have a discussion.

You bashed the hell out of us, everytime we said that.

Nice try.

Were the Yankees, and Toronto better last year when they are this year?? Could that possibly be why the Red Sox had a bad Div record last year, and, because those two teams aren’t as good this year the Red Sox have a lot better record not only against them, but a better record overall? That’s all I’m saying. As usual it’s been a privilege to be on the same stage with you. How about a Tom Werner chant. Lets go Red Sox.

On paper, the Jays looked as good going into 2023 as they were in 2022. They didn't lose much, they signed Bassitt, they traded for Varsho. They have Gausman and Berrios. Vlad Jr., Bichette, Springer, Chapman. Kiermaier and Merrifield as utility guys. But for whatever reasons, it hasn't translated to a great W-L record. They are still in a playoff spot, though.

One could very easily argue the Yanks essentially brought back the same team, since Rodon got hurt, and all the other ALE teams improved to pass them.

If the league got worse, it's hard to explain why the Yanks did so much worse ve easier opponents.

No. They are just as good. The league just got so much better!

Manoah has been real bad this year, and was sent back to the minors for a while hasn’t helped.

How are the Yankees as good this year. Older, and Broken down, and Judge missing so many games is hard to see how they are just as good. Maybe you have a better eye than I do.

He's just as good as last year: the batters just improved by a lot, as the league got better.

Losing Bichette and Romano is a serious blow to the Jay's playoff hopes.

It doesn't matter whether the quality of the teams is good or bad, one team will win the game and the other will lose. Happens every time.

The league's W-L record will be .500 again, this year, so how can the quality be declining?

LOL!

Nope! The injury excuse could not be used by Sox fans, last year. Apples to apples.

LOL!

Note: All teams in a division being .500 or better in August is about as likely as dying by being shot out of a cannon to a giant's bull's eye located at the very bottom of the grand canyon.

That explains it all. As always thanks for the info.

True.

Yes, True:

Manoah went from 168 ERA+ to 71 (77 IP)

but, why mention only him?

These outweigh that decline:

Berrios 72> 125

Kikuchi 73> 113

Gausman 113> 129

SP tOPS+ Against

103>103

RP tOPS+ Against

96>95

Looks pretty even.

The Jays roster looked very similar to 2022's on opening day. They seemingly added as much as they lost.

Their OPS+ went from 118 to 107.

Their ERA+ went from 98 to 109.

Looks like they just about evened each other out.

Nothing sinister to only mention Minoan just, because he was pitching tonight. I appreciate you checking on me though.

Never implied anything sinister.

Just showing the big picture, which shows the Jays are pretty close to the same team as last year.
