To be fair to Verdugo, it’s the job of the on-deck hitter to signal if he needs to slide. I didn’t see, but did Devers signal for him to get down?

I’m not sure, but regardless, if a guy is thrown out on a horrendous throw way off line, where a catcher can run, catch the ball and run back and tag the runner, he probably shouldn’t have been sent

Normally the on-deck hitter signals the runner to stay up or slide. Raffy was nowhere to be seen.

When in doubt, slide, but Raffy needs to do his job as well.

Wrong. Devers was where he should have been signaling for Dugo to slide.

Actually the runner should run through when in doubt. Sliding slows you down and that could be the difference.

But yes, Devers needs to let him know…

Then I sit corrected and would have no issue with Verdugo being benched again.

Of course, you can’t teach baseball IQ and Verdugo seems to be severely lacking in it. He’s not the only one in the team unfortunately in that regard.

I wouldn't have sent Verdugo with Devers on deck and 1 out with bases loaded, but what the hell do I know about coaching?

Reyes and Devers both were signaling for him to slide….

Then that one is on Verdugo.

And we can safely assume it will be important…

Most likely. Every time this team makes a mental error, it burns them

Kluber???? You have to be kidding me!

On the bright side, the baserunning f*** up by Verdugo just became irrelevant since Kluber will give up the next 6 runs…

Tends to happen when a team is struggling to score runs.

And while there’s no guarantee it would have played out the same, Devers inning ending grounder would probably have been a double play.

But Verdugo all but stopped after rounding third. He didn’t do that and he scored easily…

Then he screwed up twice. Either way, he still not a smart player.

Certainly not today.

Although when teams are struggling, there always seems to be a tendency to try to force something that often turns out boneheaded in hindsight. Like Wong trying for second last night..

Pablo Reyes has had a solid night, most notably he hasn’t had like 3 errors playing shortstop

So you’re saying he will be benched tomorrow…

I was looking up who leads the AL in leaving runners on base and found this interesting stat. In a 2017 game Pedey left 13 runners on base which is an AL record.

Btw, so far the player who has left the most runners on base this season is Hunter Renfro. Devers is tied for 20th.
