I don't think Ownership cares, The TV deal is good enough for them along with their other interests. Going the cheap route will eventually keep the Redsox a yearly .500 team with so-so draft picks..

Merloni isn’t great, but he is better than all the other Yuckers they parade out. Just like the product on the field the product in the booth is second rate too.

Giving credit where credit's due, Kike is probably one of the 3 best defensive CF's in baseball.

 

I wouldn’t go that far, but at any rate his 228 BA isn’t, and hasn’t been good enough to keep him in the lineup everyday.

Radio guys pegged it very well earlier in the broadcast; everyone is pressing and trying to do too much.

 

Contrast that with the Rays, who are all relaxed because each player knows if I don't get it done, the next guy will.

If you want to go that way why sign Devers at all? You are not serious to compare Kike to Raffy. Kike is a career 239 hitter who is still living off a hot streak in the 2021 post season. I think Raffy has accomplished a little bit more than that. Raffy is the face of the franchise, and Kike is, and has been just a stopgap that’s Cora’s favorite son.

I get your point, but it's still weird they wouldn't spend a bit more on this team, especially the starting pitching.

 

They went over the tax threshold last year, but dove back under it this year while other teams were spending big.

 

There's stuff that just doesn't make sense. But it certainly might be more a case of confusion and ineptitude than not caring.
