Just because we can't "see" the lines in real life- doesn't mean they don't exist. The strike zone is defined. While there is not a painted line in thin air.... it is not supposed to be subjective. There is an objective strike zone.. those lines are established and defined. And yes- I want all calls to be perfect- I find no value in incorrect decisions about anything in a ball game.

It's a sport, not an attempt to land a man on the moon. And imperfections are rampant in sports.

But, since you raised the issue of perfect calls on balls and strikes, did you just notice that unchecked swing by Duran? The third base ump said he didn't check his swing in time--and that was that. No endless replays by the guys in NYC to see whether it really and truly was or was not a checked swing. Was Duran happy? Nope. Tough. Get on with the game.

The chUMPIRE defines the strike zone and as long as he's consistent the batters can adjust. When they're not consistent, like today's clown, that causes the problem.

Agree.... but why not be consistent with where the actual strike zone is supposed to be?

EDIT: Actually I don't agree... the umps don't define the stirke zone. The rules do.

But if we can easily use a piece of technology to get something right- why wouldn't we? What officially is a swing and what is holding up, unfortunatly is subjective. What a strike zone is is not. So if there is an objectively defined zone... and technology allows us to perfectly see it- I just don't in a million years understand the argument against getting the calls right.

Wong is probably saving 3 outs a game by himself.

And no sooner did you say that, than the fearsome RS defense shows up again ...

No- let the ump call balls and strikes according to the rules and defined strike zone. The umps should not have their own zone. I mean why not get rid of the chalk lines... let the umps create their own zone of where fair and foul are. Both are objective lines that should be enforced as perfectly as possible.

Um. Ok? Clearly strike zones are exactly analogous to chalk lines. I stand corrected.

When your home town announcers use phrases like "Little League stuff" and "carnival stuff," it ain't good.

Seen enough, enjoy the rest of the comeback, guys. Kluber is not only ineffective but unlucky , a terrible combination

The only clowns I've seen today are the Sox defense. The umpires, as always, have been alert, decisive, and essential to the game.

With technology- they absolutely are.

No it is not. Strike zones are defined by the rules. The umps job is to enforce if a ball is in or out of that zone- not to make up a zone.

Yup whatever. Please quote me and get the last word in so we can move on. You are arguing your opinion with multiple users and are converting no one. But keep at er.

Poor D and 1-10 with RISP. Tough formula for a win. But not over yet…9 outs to go. Go Sox.

For sure... add to that Devers not getting a hit. Not good odds for a victory- but yes.. ain't over till it's over. Go Sox. Alot can happen before 6 more outs.
