Where might Zanetello place? I'm thinking Teel should be 7th, and since the next guys will be pushed back, Z might be placed just in front of Paulino at #18.

No, Teel will be in that range, Zantello will likely be in the back end of the top 20.

Teel to me could be as high as #4. Excellent college resume (performance and level of competition) combined with a high likelihood of staying behind the plate. In terms of "likelhood of being a solid major leaguer" he leaps to near the very top of the Sox prospect pile. Really comes down to how you feel about the probability without QUITE as sexy a ceiling as other players.

I was going by what MVP said about the SP podcast on Teel.

They said Teel would be 6th ahead of Drohan most likely. I'm assuming that Nazzan would be 18th ahead of Paulino, but have no idea.

Rounds 3 - 10 will be a cluster of slot to below slot guys we've never heard of. My guess is that there will be a few driveline college pitchers in there.

Which makes sense, since a lot of those are high-floor guys, and you're more likely to hit on mid-rotation arms there.

I sure wish we had stayed under the tax line and gotten better picks.

I guess - but the Red Sox got two Top 40 talents out of lower positions. All drafts are crapshoot to a certain degree and MLB is more than that.

Day one is the fun day. Day two can be a little frustrating if you pay too much attention to who is left on the board.

It would have been better picks plus additional money to spend in the draft.

The Sox have seemed to have gotten some decent results from the "senior sign" pitchers. Expectations are limited - but more than org players. Put another way - Chris Murphy being any sort of big leaguer at all is a big win for that sort of player.

Constantly drafting for floor instead of ceiling. Seems to be Bloom's MO with regards to pitching.

Less likely to bust, but also less likely to excel.

Not less likely to bust since they can all equally get injured.

I believe that's done intentionally. He spends on hitting because the value is retained in the prospect. There is less of a concern the prospect will suffer a devastating injury in the near future. Can use the prospect capital in the future for a trade. Lots of volatility with pitching, just look at Drohan this year.

Matt Duffy P Canisius College - unranked on most services, pitched for the Bourne Braves, he's Canadian, will be underslot

I agree with this, but my point was about "high floor" pitchers.

Comp Picks - Kristian Campbell GA Tech SS, Justin Riemer Wright State SS Edited by mvp 78

Riemer is a high OBP guy like Miedroth who doesn't k at all. If he didn't hurt his ACL, probably goes much higher in the draft.

To continue the streak of exciting SS and uninteresting P:

6th Round:

CJ Weins Western KY P, reliever that transferred from South Carolina

Duffy was the highest Canisius pick in the program's history.

Duffy and Early are pitchability guys. Definitely the "high floor" that we were talking about.

Weins is a FB/SL reliever who's velo ticked up a little last year, but isn't a triple digit guy.

Kiley McDaniel on the Sox draft

Boston had some nice fortune as New Jersey prep product Virginia C Kyle Teel (7) made it to the Red Sox's 14th overall pick. He's an above-average defender who can easily stick behind the plate, and while I think his hand placement/path needs a tweak in pro ball, the tools are there for solid-average offensive output.

The Red Sox have been leaning more into prep position players with upside in recent years, and Nazzan Zanetello (64), Antonio Anderson (72) and Phoenix Call (275) fit that profile this year. Zanetello was one of the best athletic testers in this class, not just for his foot and bat speed, but also how explosive he is and how he can create such bat speed with limited hand movement. He'll need more polish but has an impact upside. Anderson is a switch-hitting potential shortstop with a balanced hit/power combo with every tool average to above. Call is a plus-plus runner with some questions on his polish and hit tool.

Georgia Tech 2B Kristian Campbell (186) is an above-average runner with contact skills but will also need a swing adjustment to tap into his raw power. Wright State SS Justin Riemer (119) could be a find as a mid-major pick to click who missed most of the season with a torn ACL. Canisius RHP Matt Duffy (274) has nice command and the shape of a solid-average arsenal. Virginia LHP Connelly Early (NR) should have been in my rankings and was in Rounds 5-6 in my notes with a good feel of average stuff. Clemson lefty reliever Ryan Ammons (NR) has an above-average fastball with good shape and enough feel to be a middle reliever.
