Eflin and Eovaldi are going to be the ones that hurt, I think.

Let's see if Nate makes it through a full season of even 25 starts.

The Eflin one may hurt more, since we could have signed him over Kluber and still re-set.

Depending on what numbers you believe, the same could be said of Eovaldi's contract.

Eovaldi?

He was a good pitcher when healthy. But he wasn’t healthy all that often. And at 33, it’s a situation that’s only going to get worse. Texas signed him for 2 yrs $32mill with a vesting option for 2025. I would be surprised if that option (which requires 300 IP) ever vests.

Eflin would have been nice, despite his lack of any track record as a starter…

Senga has given up 5 HRs in 26IP. How did we miss out on this obvious fit for the rotation?

I don't think Eovaldi is much more of a question mark than most pitchers these days. And the price was far from exorbitant.

Well the best bargain so far is a guy who:

1. Cost $3.5 mill for one year, so no risk

2. Has a 1.86 ERA/1.00 WHIP

3. Once played for Boston

4. And Joe Castiglione once hinted was a major league *******.

Castiglione might be right, but Wade Miley has spent the bulk of his career as a massively underrated pitcher…

Eovaldi isn't Kluber, Sale or Paxton in their prime -- but he's better than all of them and a legit #2 right now. That's something the Sox don't have.

How much better would Boston be with Nate, who started more games and with a better ERA than any Sox in April... and with Bogaerts (and the return of the juiced ball) at short?

Legit #2 for April- agreed.

The thing about Nate is, when he's on, he's about as good as anyone in the game.

Not sure, but given he just completed 4 years with Boston and made 73 (out of 128) possible starts and ended his career with them injured, I’m not surprised he didn’t come back. Whether it was because Boston didn’t want him back out because Texas simply offered more money, I’m not sure…

We did offer a QO. Texas basically gave him a QO x 2 yrs.

Not only did he miss 43% of his starts, he sucked in 2019 and was more like a #3 in 2022, when he did pitch (4.30 FIP).

He didn't end his career with us injured. He started games 156 and 161 last year.

But those were his only two starts after the trade deadline…

Lots of talk down here in HOU about the pitch clock being part of the reason so many pitchers going on the IL.

Concerning if true.

Mixed feelings about the rule changes. Good to see the pace of the game being quicker, but maybe it was sped up a little too much. Especially if it is contributing to injuries. I like stolen bases, but maybe it has become a little too easy. Cheapens it. The shift rule is okay. It certainly seems to help the left-handed hitters in particular. I despise the " ghost runner " and not too crazy about having three wild cards.

That's what I've been thinking too.

BAL scores 5 in the 8th and 9th to beat KC.

The Rays beat PIT 3-2. They are 5-1 in one run games.

It's going to be hard to catch these two.

Disagree on the three wild cards. I like it because they made a 3 game series. The previous single game was just not enough after the 162 game battle to get there. I do understand the criticism of letting too many teams in the postseason. I’d hate to see MLB turn into the NBA in that regard…

I like the pitch clock for sure. If anything maybe just need to modify it. Like ad an extra 5 second.

Maybe 2 seconds…

I wonder now with the pitch clock working so well, should MLB eliminate the ghost runner?

Besides it’s gimmickiness, it messes up player stats. Some player consistently making the last out in the ninth gets rewarded with opportunities for stolen bases and runs scored? That’s not right. You gotta earn getting on base for those…

Percent of teams that make the playoffs:

40% MLB

44% NFL

50% NHL

66% NBA

I think guys trying to make every fastball run between 95-98mph over a 5 inning stretch is a bigger factor…
