Dalbec has started at 3B, SS and 1B in WOO.

WOO Manager:

“For right now, he’ll play mostly in the infield, but I told him, for the time being, when you’re done in the infield and you’re feeling good, get out and shag some fly balls at the corner outfield spots,” Tracy said. “We’re trying to maximize his ability so he’s able to play different spots. For now we’ll toy with him getting reps and getting balls off the bat and getting used to reads in the corner, and we’ll see where it’s at as far as games there.”

He's also wearing prescription glasses while hitting now.

And they hired a survivalist to teach him how to start fires with a cell phone mirror, and how to steal signs of predators, using trail cams.

The hope is he'll also be able to play drums on studio recordings, if Ringo's not there...

Alcantara is getting some helium.

Guys who I think have the capacity to make giant leaps this year.

Perales

Anthony

Alcantara

Noah Dean

Cespedes

Rodriguez-Cruz

If you told me one of these guys crawls into a top 100 list this year I'd believe you.

I'm hoping Yorke pushes his way back up the ladder- perhaps to top 100 status.

SoxProspects are big on Marvin Alcantara. They are working on updating their scouting reports from ST.

Not sure I see Noah Deah jumping into the top 100. He's currently ranked 41st in the system and is projected as a relief arm. Are you thinking of Drohan?

Guys that I can see jumping into the top 100:

Perales

Romero

Anthony

Hickey

I think more Sox fans will know about Paulino after this year, but I'm not sure he's a Top 100 guy type. Maybe Meidroth jumps up in the Sox system too.

Rafaela in AAA.

Mayer is starting in Greenville this year. He should be up in AA by midseason 2023 at least.

I meant to type AAA for Rafaela.

I found it interesting that some think Mayer may reach the bigs by September, and they have him starting 2024 in AA.

I think their ETA's on top prospects are generally conservative. We saw how quickly Devers rushed through the system. He beat their timeline.

Meidroth just flat out hits. It'll be interesting to see how far up the ladder his tool set can take him. It may flatten out at some point, but IDK.

I'm not going to put too much stock in the results of the start for Whitlock, but I'm happy that he's healthy and is ready to join the rotation next week. Bello watch is on.

This is what SoxProspects wrote prior to last night's Perales start:

@SoxProspects

RHP Luis Perales gets the Opening Day start for the @SalemRedSox today. The 19-year-old has the ceiling of a number 2 starter. High-ceiling and low-floor. Has shown among the best raw stuff of any arm in the system. Identified as the top pitching prospect in the FCL in 2022.

Don't blame Rosario's CERA!

Did some research. Last season, he lead his league in whiff %. Drohan added a cutter this offseason. He came to ST and also added 1-2 mph onto his FB.

He's pitching his first start of the season today for POR.

It would be interesting to see what their track record is. They do adjust their projections, at times.

I was surprised they did not have Mayer in AAA to start 2024. The "late '24" designation for his first MLB game does seem conservative. I'm not sure others jump out at me as being overly conservative.

It has to have more to do with the added 1-2 mph. They knew about the whiff% in their end of year rankings.

I'd put Romero at 2025. Anthony should be late 2025.

If Hamilton is really mid-24, he shouldn't have been protected.

Meidroth may be the next guy that moves quicker than expected through the system.

Hamilton seems to be ML ready, now, but he's just not good enough. It's like they put mid 2024 in hopes he just improves, and not necessarily matures.

Does Hamilton have any offensive upside to his game???
