@MacCerullo

Sam Kennedy said there have been a lot of discussions with free agents this week and wouldn’t be surprised if certain deals were imminent. Said he expects a lot of action during the Winter Meetings.

That Rich Hill deal is coming soon!

"Hill should be ready for action by August 1! He won't cost us any prospects, and be as good as anyone else available at the trade deadline!"

("he'll also replace that good pitcher we're going to sign who we'll flip for a haul in July when we're out of it")

I read that the offer to Bogy from San Diego had him changing positions, i thought that, him not wanting to change positions was a big part of why Boston wasn’t resigning him, they don’t want to block Mayer in 24, if he’s willing to play left field in a couple years there is no reason at all the Red Sox shouldn’t resign Bogaerts

San Diego wants more shortstops?

Last year they had shortstops playing second base, third base, left field, and center field on occasion. Oh and they had one at shortstop. And they did all this with their actual starting shortstop out with an injury, and later a suspension.

They might want to consider players who have played other positions once in a while…

What can I say, they made the offer there was a mention of first base among other positions

Mayer might be ready in 2024. so it might be one year and switch.

If the reports were true that Abreu was the #1 target out there, and while I believe he would have helped the club from what they got on the roster now I think he should have been down on the list of needs, and certainly not #1, so who could be behind door #2. I just can’t see the Sox outbidding other teams for someone that will make a big impact on the team. Maybe fill a need, but not a big impact.

Why would their first two targets be Abreu and a Catcher? I don't think anyone of us see those as the gapping holes that need to be filled.

If they have that much faith in Mayer, I suspect a stopgap shortstop will be signed (Andrus?) or acquired via trade (Mondesi?). Or Kike will play the position for one year…

I think the Padres were just checking in and not really serious.

If Kiké is at SS, who is in CF?

I am beginning to think a 1 year "bridge" might be the plan. They better make a splash elsewhere, or there will be some 'splainin' to do.

Another "bridge" to Rafaela! LOL

If Rafaela was less of a free swinger, they'd probably consider moving him up in 2023. I think they'll go slower with him.

The Sox have him projected for 24 and you could see him some this year, did you think it was just money that bogy hasn’t been resigned

I really, really doubt Mayer sees any time in BOS this year. He has less than 100 AB's above low A. Raffy, Xander and Mookie all had 700 PA's above low A before getting to BOS. That'd be at least another full year before debuting.

Oh what the heck. Why not Nimmo?

If we pass on the big 4 SSs and likely all the best SP'ers, what else can we spend $90M on? Nimmo and Contreras would only be about half.

Aaron Judge

That would be the splash to end all slashes, and if we did it at the last minute, it would greatly overshadow the Tiexiera Yankee grab, years ago.

If we go cheap at SS, we can afford Judge. Whether he's worth a mega overpay is another issue.

Are the Red Sox going to outbid other teams for him?

If we go by our recent history, no.

The QO and loss of a draft pick probably will dissuade us from even making a highly competitive offer, IMO.

That’s very possible .

They did sign a QO free agent in Story. And they gain QO comp picks for Eovaldi and Bogaerts. But the plan to rebuild the farm certainly certainly can’t revolve around giving up picks every year, either…

He probably won't be, but it would be fun in the short term.
