Is everybody sure that Whitlock is all that in tough relief situations ?

Looked more like Houck, but got the job done.

Yes he's fine. Can't be perfect all the time. Sox won 2 games this series and in both of them he pitched the last 2 innings. Since his return he's pitched 8 inning out of the pen and only giving up 1 run.

I'd like to know who the genius was who thought Whitlock should be a starter this year. He clearly is much more valuable in the bullpen.

I think the word came from upstairs, but there are a lot of so called geniuses on here who thought they same thing too. I’ll still say that putting him in the rotation early in the season cost the Red Sox some wins. As we found out last year every win is counted, and needed to make the postseason.

Although his trade value has diminished in the last few weeks. Not a big demand for a DH with 9 homers and less yhan 40 RBI.

The Giants (14), Padres (12), Mets (6) and Rays (4) are not exactly watching their DHs launch HR after HR as they fight for postseason spots.

The Mets did acquire Dan Vogelbach a couple weeks back, but JD is a definite improvement…

No one on any sports board thinks any other contributor is a functioning adult let alone a genius.

And the original criticism was extreme and unwarranted. Whitlock did fine in the rotation…

It was NEVER a question if he could pitch in the rotation, but that he was NEEDED MOST in the bullpen, and still is. Fine in the rotation vs good to great in the BP. Easy choice for me.
