Per MLB Trade Rumors:

The Red Sox acquired outfielder Abraham Almonte from the Brewers in exchange for cash this afternoon, according to an announcement from Milwaukee. The switch-hitting outfielder had been on a minor league deal with the Brew Crew. He won’t occupy a spot on the Sox’s 40-man roster at this time, and his transactions tracker at MLB.com indicates he’s been assigned to their Triple-A affiliate in Worcester.

Almonte is trying to earn a big league opportunity for what would be his tenth consecutive year. He broke into the majors in 2013 with the Mariners, and he’s bounced around the league as a depth outfielder for the past decade. Almonte has never played in more than 82 games in any major league season, but he’s suited up with each of the Mariners, Padres, Guardians, Royals, Diamondbacks and Braves at the highest level.

In just over 1300 career plate appearances, Almonte owns a .234/.302/.374 line. He hit .216/.331/.399 across 175 plate appearances with Atlanta last year before the Braves outrighted him off their roster in August. The 33-year-old has had an excellent season with Milwaukee’s top affiliate, mashing at a .293/.380/.533 clip with 11 home runs and a robust 11.7% walk percentage through 48 games in Nashville.

What a waste of money.

Just checked Almonte's lifetime OPS+ and JBJ's lifetime OPS+. Almonte's is 82. JBJ's is 85. Btw, both's lifetime stats in other offensive areas are similar also.

Here's an pretty good defensive stat on JBJ:

From the start of the 2020 season thru today JBJ has played 263 games in the OF w/o committing an error. Yup, he catches the ball.

I see where Trout is back on the 10 day IL. Kind of the high priced version of Arroyo.

Missed almost all of 2021 with his calf injury that wouldn't heal . Another super contract that will not pay out as expected. Trout's deal made Pujol's 10 years of Angeldom look cheap. I am definitely falling in the camp of no long term ( over 5+ club options) big(gest) $$$$ contracts . Yes, the occassional superstars will move on from you in the current system. But , IMO, better to pay 5 guys who can contribute well enough, than one guy enough to buy the team back. Plus LAA now has the problem of what to do with Ohtani ? They can't win with Trout and Ohtani, don't even mention Rendon who is their version of Sale.

Bloom still shopping in the dumpster

Some audiophile posted a while ago that he found a McIntosh amplifier in a dumpster and it was working perfectly. Unfortunately, finding perfectly working ballplayers in a dumpster is a whole different matter.

Prepping for a multi-player move getting rid of some OF'ers on this team ?

Comparing LAA with the SOX, I'd say LAA has a lot more problems than our team.

Great points, Vegas. The first player I thought of that would have Trout injury problems over the long haul would be Judge. Probably worse.

But that won't stop Bloom from diving.

I will have no sympathies for the GM who mortgages his team for 10 years to get Aaron Judge. I'd rather give him $100 million for 2 years, maybe get a title and move on. His injury history will continue as he ages. If in doubt, see Trout.

I only mention Angels because I see/hear their BS in media here in SoCal. They are a godforsaken, hot mess year after year and have NOT been able to buy their way out of it. They fired Joe Maddon, looking for a spark and got electrocuted worse, lol

I bet Tito sits in the rocking chair on the porch of his local Cracker Barrel restaurant spittin' seed shells on the shoes of the little ol' blue haired ladies coming in for early dinners

How many called K's does Dalbec have this year. He has never learned the fine art of fouling off 6 straight to get one he can hit ( 80 mph, Center/center)

Yup, he's the second coming of Will Geer.

Cannot tolerate the shift. That and dribblers cost the Sox all last week Edited by vegasbob

How much more rope is Bloom going to give Dalbec and Franchy? Enough already!

If Bloom does not acquire a 1Bman specifically, then you will have both these guys through the season . If the plan is wait on Casas for '23 , then you will see one or both go by ST. I'm sure they are being dangled in every deal discussion, but what GM would want Dalbec. Cordero may have a blind batter's chance of hanging around
