If any of the ideas being talked about in this thread actually happened, we would suck for the next 10 years or so. Maybe more

Whether Bogey is traded or not, he's not coming back next year anyway, so what's your point?

Until that is determined it's stupid to say it's a 'bad idea.'

Yes, that's why I said that.

Bogey for Judge and then acquiring Iggy would be great. (Not happening, but it highlights your point.)

Bogey is gone after this season. Trading him might makes us better in years 2-10.

(I'm not for trading Bogey.)

I personally expect him to leave, but I don't think it's a done deal yet. There have been a few things that have happened over the last few months that have led me to believe he might stay, or is at least thinking about it

Could we trade peanuts to Colorado for shortstop iggy, and then unload bogey to a contender for some sweet prospects?

Iggy's DWAR to date is -0.2. His OPS is .720.

Agreed, but what do we get for Bogey?

Not much, more than likely. Bogaerts is going to be a rental only. We won't be getting equivalent talent in return. I don't mind him being gone, though I wish we could keep both him and Devers, but of the two, lets keep Devers. No more lowball offers.

It's hard to predict what you'll get in return on one of these deals, but the Orioles got precious little when they traded Machado to the Dodgers in 2018.

I haven't really looked into it, but what contenders are in need of a SS?

Actually, what’s your point?

The Sox are alive and doing well in the post season picture RIGHT NOW. While GMs do have to look towards “next season” all the time, and especially this time of year, that doesn’t mean they ignore the present…

Sometimes I also feel like those of you that don't live in Boston or in New England either forget or don't realize how ruthless the media would be and how quickly attendance would drop if we sold everything at the deadline. Boston teams don't tank or rebuild. Part of the job description when you take a GM job in this city

The Red Sox if they dealt Bogaerts, for one…

Dumb thing to post when you're certainly aware the SOX have Story. But, I guess you were looking for a funny one-liner and failed completely.

I don’t buy Bogey looking to blead this team dry with his extension. The Redsox have to stop with this bullll s*** narrative that we can’t afford Bogey and Devers and build a team .Chaim has done a very decent job building the farm is it perfect ? No it’s not but it’s plenty capable .I can’t fathom this team without Xander he’s our Jeter .Bogey is not perfect he knows this and he’s not long until a position change either likely Meyer takes over at SS .I offer Bogey a contract reflecting a future position Change .Im giving Bogey a 7 year deal at 210 if that’s not close then yes I move on .this must be offered immediately and yes I want the number broadcast to us fans if he turns down that . Look I can’t stand this GM but I’ll tell you this ....if he gets Bogey on a long term deal I’ll never second guess this hack ass GM again period

Yes it is truly awful that his teams have a .564 winning pct covering the last two seasons. I know it’s not exactly Dombrowski, whose first two seasons soared to a .574 winning pct, making them a whopping 1% better. But I think we can adjust…

Well then tell me what contenders are looking for unproductive shortstops…

It was OK to sell off expiring assets in 2014 when we were clearly out of it. That's the only time it's OK for the Red Sox to do it.

Yeah, not that we had much to deal in that tank dumpster fire sawed-off season I'm trying to forget...

And I'm not forgetting Bloom's swipe of Pivetta.

Good point. Maybe Bogey will start producing before the TDL; there's always hope. If not, the SOX will probably not get enough worth trading him.

If Bogey's not traded, the SOX will still get a decent prospect from the team that does sign him for next season.

Except for the Ghost, does anyone here think Bogey is worth 30 mil/year?

Agree. Also agree Thunder has made a heckuva point to/for us out-of-towners. The NYY GM probably has a similar understanding.

I have always thought Chaim Bloom has to balance competing demands. DD, on the other hand, pretty much had a free hand to spend money and offer up prospects. He produced a great season, 2018, so I need to dampen my urge to criticize.

I don’t, and I doubt any GM offers him that for more than 3-4 years. I think his ceiling is $27M x 5-6 years, but I’m far from an expert on these things.

Instead of looking at numbers, I consider this when evaluating a player's worth: is he worth a top-of-the-market rate for a guy at his position?

Right now, besides maybe Correa (who has turned it on lately), it doesn't look like any of the recent big free agent middle infielders are worth their contracts. Disappointments include Lindor, Seager, Semien, Baez, and Story.

The problem for the Red Sox is that it's hard to argue that Bogaerts' consistency isn't worth as much as all of those other big money mediocrities.

He’s a two time world champion middle infielder who hits way way above his position and has proven to be a heck of a leader. And he’s only 29. He’s gonna get paid and get paid VERY well. Any thoughts of a 5-6 year deal need to be thrown out. He’s gonna get 8-$34 mil per IMO. I don’t think you’ll see a ten year deal like Seager got, but I think he beats the AAV

We’ll see.

If he gets anywhere near that, it won’t be with the Sox.
