I think the Sox ship sailed the day they signed Story. Interestingly, I expect him to sign with LAD

I felt that the minute I heard we signed Story.

I don't think Bogey gets what you think. He's not a plus defender and may move positions shortly after signing.

I'm not trading Xander. He is a good player (as a SS he's very good), but at this point he's not HOF. Next year he will be 30. Can he play 10 more years? I thinks so, but where is his peak? Are we seeing it today? Or in 3-4 years when his contract is up? Nomar Garciaparra peaked at 29. Then injuries. Our best shortstop until Xander was Rico Petrocelli (and he shifted over to 3rd at 28). JD, Eovaldi, Kiki, Vazquez, Wacha and Hill's contracts are up. JD has been solid and can continue to produce for a couple more years, but he's 35 next month. Maybe he gets a two-three year contract. I'd rather us put money into a big slugger like Judge. He's the premiere player going into FA (there is really nobody else). He'll be 31 next year.

There is just about zero chance we trade Bogey or any FA to be we need, and with so much money coming off the books, we should be able to spend a lot, this winter to keep or replace the big holes we will have. Judge does seem like the big prize, but there will be some heavy bidding war on him. There are some other very nice choices out there...

I don’t buy Bogey looking to blead this team dry with his extension. The Redsox have to stop with this bullll s*** narrative that we can’t afford Bogey and Devers and build a team .Chaim has done a very decent job building the farm is it perfect ? No it’s not but it’s plenty capable .I can’t fathom this team without Xander he’s our Jeter .Bogey is not perfect he knows this and he’s not long until a position change either likely Meyer takes over at SS .I offer Bogey a contract reflecting a future position Change .Im giving Bogey a 7 year deal at 210 if that’s not close then yes I move on .this must be offered immediately and yes I want the number broadcast to us fans if he turns down that .

That's quite the word salad. 3rd grade must have been a long, tough 5yrs for you.

Yes, that's why I said that.

Bogey for Judge and then acquiring Iggy would be great. (Not happening, but it highlights your point.)

bogey for Aroldis Chapman would be better.

At some point, the Dodgers will reach a budget limit…

They're paying Trea Turner $21 mill this year, so it's not a major leap to Bogey's number. Or maybe they like Turner better and try to keep him.

The Cards need a SS, and they’ve been known to spend big on shiny objects from time to time. The Phillies and Giants might be in on the bidding. More teams might be involved, if Bogey agrees to play 2B or 3B right away.

The interesting point is that St Louis is maybe one game better than Boston and Philly and SF are worse. Beyond the two game panic, why are we selling while those teams are buying?

The whole notion that “Bloom won’t let Bogaerts go for nothing” is just more Tampa North. Apparently having the 6th highest payroll and adding a nine-figure free agent contract just isn’t enough to make people overlook that Bloom ran a small market team and therefore prioritizes the minors over MLB, even if it means tanking a winning Red Sox season at the All Star break.

Did he trade ERod at the deadline last year? Or let him go for nothing?

In fact the notion that Bogaerts would go “for nothing” is erroneous; the Sox will have received 9 seasons of quality MLB baseball out of him…

He’s made a lot of chatter about rebuilding while buying this year, as well..

Yes, I was.

I believe there is less than a 1% chance Bogey is traded at the deadline, even if we are 5 down in the last WC slot race by that time.

I doubt we are sellers & buyers, but yes, I did bring it up a few times.

I can't see Bloom trading Bogey, even if he really wants to improve the longer outlook as his top priority.

All that being said, here are some moves I suggested on BTV while playing around with values:

3 Way Deals

to BOS

Mountcastle 1B

Santander RF (L/R)

O'Hoppe C prospect

Lopes RP

Segura SS/2B (1.5 yrs control)

to PHI

Bogey

Kike

Crawford

to BAL

Abel

Dalbec

Seabold

_____________

To BOS

Mountcastle

Santander

Lopez

To STL

Bogey

To BAL

Libertore

Dalbec

Groome

Bonaci

______________________

To BOS

Montas

O'Hopped

Piscotty

Segura

Trivino

To PHI

Bogey

Kike

To OAK

Abel

Groome

Note: none of these will happen, and I'm not sure I'm for any of them.

Here is one, I'd do:

To BOS

O'Hoppe

Kiermaier

Adam

To PHI

Kike

W Gonzalez

Lugo

Groome

Diekman

To TBR

McGarry

It was in response to your and Bell's back and forth on Bogey going to LAD, this winter... LOL!

Well if he only cost $4mill over Turner.

But at some point, I expect the Dodgers to dial back. They have players like Will Smith, Julio Urias and Walker Buehler due large arbitration raises that they have to deal with one way or another…

I don't think he goes to LAD, that's why I mentioned other places, like STL. They'd love him there as much or maybe more than he was loved here, but they do tend to favor defense at SS, like many GMs do.

I would think most GM's favor WAR now.

I would think most GM's favor WAR now.

Or, their own similar form of assigning an overall value and more importantly projected value, which may not have much to do with 2022 or 2019-2022 WAR.

I did not mean to imply "favor D" over offense, but just that it is an important factor (as it is with WAR.)
