With the expanded playoffs and the " crapshoot " nature of the post season , I just don't think a fire sale can be justified. I don't envision the Sox being so far out of contention that they would consider a selloff.

And it could be a huge missed opportunity to dump the expiring contracts for a big haul of prospects. As a Yankee fan, I would love for them to think they are in it, possibly add at the deadline and miss both the playoffs and the chance to give a tremendous boost to the farm system.

It would be great to see the Yanks miss an opportunity to get something good for Judge, and come up short, again, this year.

Rental players don’t always bring back the best haul…

, I like their odds just as much as anyone else right now. Can you say the same about the sox?

I think jd, xbo and eo bring back a nice return

Not even close, but the odds are against you winning it all.

And in other news, water is wet. SMH.....

Maybe not as much as you think.

I also think Kike and Wacha, maybe Vaz, bring back something good.

Hill and Strahm- maybe long shot- high ceiling/low floor guys.

It’s a bit difficult to think of many deals where two months of a player brought back a great return. Nelson Cruz did last season, but most of the bigger names still had over a full season left. Maybe Kimbrel for Madrigal?

The A’s did ok dealing Sonny Gray at the deadline. The Orioles got squat for Machado. But who since Bartolo Colon has really brought back a farm-altering return?

I’m giving the 2020/2021 teams a pass, since a lot of that is still TBD…

Not unless they're the immortal Larry Andersen!

True but in 1991, prospects weren’t valued the way they are today. Salaries were more reasonable, so the need for minimum wage players wasn’t as great.

Still was a bonehead trade, of course…

Chapman to the cubs brought back a nice return for the Yanks.

True, although closers are the one position you can really oversell at the trade deadline. Like my Kimbrel example earlier…

A big bat can bring back a decent return as well

Not as often. But I mentioned Nelson Cruz. Although honestly, maybe 70 IP is a bit early for Joe Ryan’s Cooperstown campaign…

The elephant is still in the room though. The elephant that says the 2022 team is not really going anywhere and a selloff of expiring contracts in July looks like the smart move.

This post hurts me Bell.

The team has a lot of work to do, but there is still a lot of season left. It's far too early to talk about selling off.

As a smart guy once said, it gets late early around here.

We'll see where things stand closer to the trade deadline. If the Sox are out of it, I am 100% for trading away any player not in our long term plans.

Hindsight for sure makes it look like a bonehead trade but there was plenty of justification for it at the time.

The need for Anderson was clearly there after Reardon had a “career-ending” injury that toook him out for a few weeks and Jeff Grey had a stroke.

The price of unloading the team’s best hitting prospect to get a middle reliever was the problem.

I mean, Gorman didn’t even go after a good reliever…

This ain't aging well jacko lol

Remember how I told you there was a path to relevance? Well, they took it. After the Tigers series, you’ve got a path of hell

And nothing makes me happier. It’s mid June. There’s another 6 weeks til the deadline. If the Sox remain in the playoff hunt, they won’t get to cash in on their expiring contract players

Yeah, it really worked out well for the Yankees last year when the Sox were buyers instead of sellers.

Finally after today the Red Sox will get to play against a winning team. What’s it been like 8 series in a row against losing teams with 4 of them against last place teams since they played against a winning team. It’s been nice to rack up all these wins, but for me it’s been really hard to get into these games against such bad competition especially for so long a time. I know in early July the Sox play 14 games straight against NY, and Tampa with a 3 game with Toronto at the end. So come the end of July we’ll see if this is a real playoff team, or one where some will get their wish, and see a big fire sale. Just the prospect of getting more prospects have had some salivating for some time now.

I think the Yankees are a lot better team this year then they were last year.
