Sox took 2 of 3 @ Texas and 2 of 3 vs. the Astros--and now the first game vs. the Mariners. In none of those 7 games was the score close. No closer has emerged.

In the five wins the Sox scored 7, 11, 6, 5, and 12 runs--and scored just 1 and 4 runs in the two losses in which Texas scored 7 runs and Houston 13. Sox are now 19th in MLB in runs scored, also in team OPS. Sox ERA, 3.85, is 17th in MLB.

Sox are 6-4 in their last 10 and the Yankees 8-2 with the Sox 12 games back with a run differential of -8 to the Yankees +72.

The 162 game season is divisible by 9, which means there are nine 18-game "innings" and the Sox just started the 3d inning.

Eovaldi's pummeling notwithstanding, I'm starting to like the rotation--but not the bullpen. The hitting is only mostly dead, and the defense is adequate.

No closer has emerged, in part because we have not needed one, lately.

I still think Houck should get the role. Maybe they wait until Sale or Paxton return. Maybe, sooner, when Wacha returns.

Maybe they make Whitlock the long man again or piggy backer, and move Houch to closer.

Maybe they make Whitlock the closer.

Why would they wait until July or a day that may never come?

The same reason they've waited this long. July is about as far away as opening day was.

Also, sayiung "maybe they...." does not mean I condone waiting.

I've been saying name Houck the closer for weeks and wanted it opening day, too.

We finally face a lefty.

It's going to be mid 60's, tonight, so not as warm as last night, but maybe we can keep the bats hot.

It's actually quite a bit warmer than last night. I was walking around Boston Common in sweats last night

Oh. I thought someone said it was in the 90's, or was that the day before?

Don’t like Arroyo in RF, and especially in Fenway.

Me, neither, but I don't like JBJ in the line-up, even if we were facing a righty.

Agree, and that is why Bloom should have picked up a regular RHH outfielder before the season started.

Better yet, instead of JBJ

(I do like what I see in Binelas & Hamilton, but I know you don't really want to hear about that, until they prove themselves..)

We both agreed on the JBJ trade, and I do enjoy minor league baseball, but I just don’t count on anybody until they hit Boston.

The thing is, they don’t have to prove themselves in Boston to help. They just have to prove themselves enough in the minors to make other GMs notice…

Nobody should count on anyone, but the theory is build it up with as many good players as you can to increase the odds you produce guys like Betts, Bogey & Devers plus some role decent players every half decade.

Or, you use them to trade for players you hope lead you to a ring- like pre-2018.

Adding Binelas and Hamilton may or may not end up being meaningful, but the more guys we add like them, the b etter our odds. To me, that what it's all about, in terms of trying to build your farm beyond drafting and IFAs.

It seems like Sox brass did not want Renfroe back- my guess is over his defense, and maybe a little over thinking he peaked on offense. The financial cost of JBJ is what really shook me, because, even though we went over the tax line, there appears to be some pretty set limits on spending. The Beni trade barely saved us enough to sign Renfroe and keep him for a year, and only Winckowski has any hope of helping, unless you think Cordero will come to life.

I think Bloom was told to build the farm up as quickly as possible and as well as possible without making the fanbase believe we are planning on any downtime beyond the 2020 season. Never give the impression this is a complete rebuild. Make it as slow and painless as possible. I'm not sure how well Bloom has done in that area, so far. The 2021 season brought Sox Nation to life, rather unexpectedly for some of us, but it might have hurt his plans on doing a deeper rebuild without scaring fans away.

When Bloom trades one of note to get someone of note like DD did let me know.

Kyle Schwarber doesn’t count? The guy has a .910 OPS and 25 HRs when the Sox acquired him. I’d count that as a notable acquisition…

Nobody notable was given up. Not in the Sale, and Kimbrel category, or even Rizzo for that matter.

Here's an idea for future games. When the SOX have 4 or more run lead going into the 5th, bring in JBJ for defense.

Better yet; if the SOX have any lead going into the 5th, bring in JBJ for defense.

Not catching that ball has changed the whole inning.
