SOX getting some good Durwood off of Kirby.

James Homer Durward Kirby , 1911 version. Regrettably gone but not forgotten

Not to be confused with the Kirwood Derby.

There's a suburb of St. Louis named Kirkwood, and Durward was from Kentucky therefore very familiar with the Derby, including the Brown one in LA

It was also made famous by Rocky & Bullwinkle.

I think too many posters, myself included, may have assumed his Colorado numbers would not translate well into Fenway numbers.

No doubt there needs to be extension in this line-up. Hopefully, Story can be that guy.

There are some signs of improvement starting with Story . Vaz is Vaz, Dalbec/Cordero remains a weak spot, and Bloom needs to solve the dilemma that JBJr should be a 4th Def OF'er , despite his cost this year and eat the option money. Those 2 positions plus 2 relievers could restore the chase to the 6th playoff position. But the early season created a lot of ground to make up, and we haven't seen the 7 doubleheaders yet.

On many teams a light hitting OF'er can be carried, especially one with speed, , if the other 8 are creating runs. When the bottom 4 in the order hit to their career averages AND the leadoff hitter has a good OBP, it becomes a whole new runscoring machine.

Pops needs to definitely pick it up and we need to solve 1B with a power hitter.

I'm not making any predictions in regards to Story. Especially after all the praise I piled on Verdugo earlier this season.

There was a whole article today on the Dodger LH hitters actively practicing the bunt to the 3B side pregame, to deal with the previous "deader ball" and the SHIFT. Bryce Harper pulled it off this week too. Dugo, Cordero and Bradley would do well to learn how to bun6t for a single and get on base in front of the hitters

Actually, JBJ, from what I've seen, appears to be a very good bunter. I agree he should bunt more often, perhaps every time at bat.

Do you have any advice for Dalbec?

A sequence I’ve never seen.

Agreed but worked well for us as Kirby created a virtual 10th inning situation for Red Sox only. If I ever had hit a ball as far as Dugo did and not had an HR, I'd play a different game
