Bob Costas and Jeff Franceour. I don't think John Henry will ever let Orsillo step foot at Fenway again

It was basically allowing Air Bud to do a touchdown dance in your endzone.

A word about TBS. When the Sox were recently in Atlanta to play the Braves, that game was also on TBS, but not for me. MLB blackout restrictions are really serious. I will get this game, however, because my restrictions apply only to games vs. the Braves, Orioles, and Nationals.

Yeah I've been dealing with those blackouts for years. Last night was just the 4th Red Sox game I was able to watch this year, and that was because I was there!

Looks like Plawecki is back to being Big Nate's FT caddy.

Vazquez 3.97/.807

Small sample size? Yes. How about career?

Franchy has a 122 wRC+ since May 1. He needs to run into a HR or two.

That damn Manfred rolled up sock ball...

Doesn't seem to be affecting Judge, Stanton and Rizzo.

Those three combined have more HR's than the entire sox team.

Fewer rings, however…

Rizzo's 10 HR's would equate to 3 in SF. Weird.

1064 Home OPS

621 Away OPS

Interesting....

His swing is certainly conducive to YS

No rings allows for a tighter grip on the bat.

Somehow I think it's more than their grip that is affecting the sox lineup right now.

Get a grip on yourself. It was a joke.

The bigger joke is you taking it seriously.

I certainly didn't.

But back to baseball, what do you think the biggest reason for the sox's power outage?

Cold weather, dead ball and concurrent slumps.

Well, other teams have played in the same cold weather and I'm pretty sure they are all using the same baseballs......

Yes, and many teams have less homers, too. That is why it might be PART of the answer.

Many teams have also not played in cold weather as much as the Sox.

Many other teams do not have all but 3 players slumping at the same time.

A look at team ISO numbers since 2018 (30 teams x 5 seasons= 150 sample sizes)

Only the NYY crack the top 45 (at #45 at .180) out of teams from 2022.

MIL is 47th at .179.

The last 5 teams are all from 2022, and the Sox are not one of them. (We are #144/150.)

9 of the bottom 11 are from 2022.

13 out of the bottom 17, too. (16 out of 25 and on and on...)

This certainly can explain part of our lack of HRs.

Nope, there's plenty of teams ahead of the sox that have played plenty of cold weather games considering there's only 2 teams behind the sox.

I never said we played the coldest games or that nobody had more HRs while playing in many cold games. The fact that a few teams have more homers in colder weather does not mean it cannot be a factor.

I just suggested, it might be part of the answer, along with slumping and the dead ball.

Well, as you pointed out, the dead ball pretty much affects everyone equally.

So that really doesn't explain why the sox are so far down the list, not compared with their past but with their present competition.

You did not ask about our placement. You asked about why the Sox are having a "power outage." The fact that the whole league is, has to be part of it. I never said it affected all teams "EQUALLY." You did.

Yes, it has affected us more than anyone else, and maybe, and this is just my opinion in response to your question, the rest is due to cold weather and all but 3 guys slumping at the same time. (Plus, even the 3 non-slumpers, are low in HRs compared to previous seasons.)

Do you have another reason to add, other than the Red Sox just plain suck?

Correct, and that's why I clarified my question.

And, again, since there are only 2 teams behind the sox, I don't think the cold weather excuse really holds up.

Also, I never said that they suck. And I don't know why their power is down, that's why I asked an "expert".

Whatever answer anyone gives would be a complete guess. My line has been Fire Fatse. It's mostly a joke. He was on the staff two years before this and he says they haven't really changed anything. But it does make you wonder when you see everyone except the Big 3 struggling.
