It's behind a paywall so I can't read it, but I imagine since this is from a Houston paper they whine about how they were unfairly treated. The big difference in what happened is that the Yankees did this is 2015 and 2016 before there were strict rules. MLB sent out their letter to the league in 2017, and despite that letter the Astros and the Red Sox (to a much lesser degree) disobeyed those rules. There was nothing in the letter that wasn't already public knowledge.

Yes, they don't get it, down here.

Also, the Astros did for every hitter, not just when they had a man on second.

One point that does resonate is that the Yanks cried up a storm over the Astros cheating them out of a possible ring, when they knew all along, they were cheaters, too- just maybe not that year.

I get what you're saying, but if the majority of the league was doing it prior to 2017 (which was likely the case, otherwise why send a letter to the whole league rather than just address it with specific teams) then at least teams were on an even playing field. Looking back at it now though, I wonder if Sanchez was so good in his first year because of this.

Yanks pummel Royals. Offense finally showing up. Cortes was good enough. It’s like a switch flipped

It's called strength of schedule. Or lack thereof.

Getting major 2021 Red Sox vibes with this team

I’m getting late 90s vibes from this team. Every starter has been nails. Pen is deep with many options to reliever. Closer is great. Offense gets on base. They have now found ways to manufacture runs, steal bases, get on base and still hit long balls. Their defense has been awesome. They’re a well oiled machine now that the bats have come alive. They’re third in baseball in OPS and second in ERA

Is that the excuse now?

It's not the excuse for why the Red Sox are playing so poorly. It is a significant part of why the Yankees are playing so well right now.

Might be that the AL isn’t what it used to be. ALE is a buzzsaw, but the central is a dud and the west will end up as Houston’s division in the end even though Harmony wishes the Mariners were ready for prime time

Judge puts the exclamation point on top. 9 game streak heading into Toronto. The Jays aren't a team you sweep, but if we keep playing to situations and hitting some long balls, we should take the series. This is the Yankee team we SHOULD have seen a couple years ago. So many ways to hurt you. Can steal bases and take the extra base. Can bunt, hit a runner over and sac fly someone. Can take some pitches and walk. Can find a gap. Can hit it out. All while having a rotation that's dominant and a pen that's essentially lights out. And it wasnt until they took Gallo out of the lineup (now he's out for awhile anyway) and made more contact that good things started to happen.

Good times right now. Three sweeps in a row of bad teams, but now time to see if they can continue this level of play against playoff caliber teams.

They will have losses. Heck, they may stack them at some point. But something shifted, maybe with the return of DJ and the peskiness of IKF. When those guys make contact and push runners over and do all the little things, this team scores runs. This rotation and the death squad in the pen will prevent runs. The D will prevent runs. Our issues have been scoring. If this team has bought into enough small ball to eek out victories while allowing the big boys to still swing for the fences, then homerun. If, and this is still a considerable if, this team has turned a corner philosophically, there will be no stopping them in getting to 100 wins

Holmes has been unbelievable for you guys. His numbers with the Pirates did not suggest he was this good.

It's the PED-laced drinking fountain in the clubhouse- I swear it!

Maybe they found papi's milk shake recipe when they dug up his jersey in the new Stadium........

Holmes' stuff hasn't changed much since joining the Yankees. He just had no command until he got to NY (6.4 BB/9 in Pit vs 1.4 BB/9 in NY) and that's really been the difference. He's still only thrown 40 total innings with the Yankees, and its entirely possible he could revert back to his former "no-command" self.

It's good times for sure but I think at the deadline catcher will have to be addressed. I would love to ship Peralta out for a low level prospect and call up Banuelos who has been fire. I just have no faith in Peralta. I'd ship Green out too for a good prospect. I think our pen has the depth for that.

Peralta was big for us down the stretch last year, and besides that one bad outing against the O's he's been fine so far. I have more faith in him than Miguel Castro. And anyway he's like the #7 reliever in the BP so we don't need anyone great for that role. That said if they get a good offer for him they should take it because they're loaded in the BP, but I wouldn't just give him away. Injuries happen and he's good depth.

Also, there is a major have and have nots issue in the AL. Outside of HOU, NYY, TOR, and maybe TB, the rest of the AL is trash.

I will grant you that the Yankees look really good right now and the Red Sox look like trash right now. Things will even out.

Maybe.

But, then again, maybe not.

Yes.

For example, the Yankees HAVE Aaron Boone. And he can trash them…

Yeah, i just don't trust him. I think he's going to turn into a pumpkin soon.

i'm a huge manny banuelos fan and think he'd be an excellent bullpen piece. I'd also convert Garcia into a rp, try to save any value left on him.

Yanks pitching staff is ridiculously loaded. Marinaccio would be a setup man on some clubs. Schmidt would be a closer or starter on most clubs. Those guys are in the minors because the pen is so ridiculously stacked. The rotation is stacked. The lineup is showing depth and different ways to score than just bombs away. This team is playing awesome right now and seems to have finally broken through the chains of underperformance into a real juggernaut. They small ball a lead last night. They drive in 6 runs without homers tonight and feast on bad Jays pen work. So many ways to beat you and they finally look to be ready to be as good as they should have been

Do you ever learn? These are some of your posts so far this season:

but it’s continuing the alarming trend of 2021 where the Yanks only scored off long balls.

but I’m not liking what I’m seeing out of Hicks. Twice he had easy RBI chances and twice he sucked. His at bats just don’t look good, continuing his putrid performance from the beginning of last year before he needed surgery.

Hicks is absolutely awful.

New year, same ********. Cannot f***ing hit

This team is a bag of s*** offensively. Torres sucks. Hicks is a GB machine. The big guys take too many pitches. This is not a championship caliber offense

No clutch hitting. Swinging for the downs every AB. It’s not baseball. It’s home run derby

All you needed was 2 runs vs the lowly orioles but you couldn’t get that. Joke of a team

This team sucks

There’s a fundamental flaw to this offense. When conditions do not favor the longball, the offense goes silent. They can’t manufacture. They’re allergic to contact. Too many black holes in the lineup.

This team can’t hit

Our offense is hot garbage

I like the scrappy part of our lineup. Not so much the meat and potatoes of the lineup

The offense came together today. I still have my doubts about their long term sustainability vs good pitching. They K far too easily, which makes small ball or manufacturing almost impossible.

" Crazy " Joe Gallo got whacked by the mob. This Joey Gallo may get whacked by the bleacher creatures.

I grew up a few blocks away from his place on President St in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Rumor has it he had a lion in the basement. Great book about him called "The Mad Ones"
