This type delay while a"starting" pitcher goes through his 20 minute warm up is a bad deal for fans. Your guy is injured?, get a reliever hot in about 5 minutes.

What's the best thing that can happen when the opposing starter is pitching well with a good lead? A rain delay, courtesy of Dusty Baker. Anyone who believes that injury happened right then will believe anything. And Odorizzi will take plenty of time before throwing his first pitch.

 

It's a pretty good assumption this was planned before the game started.
