Genius? I think that word along with 'great' are overused and misused. Cora, imho, is an excellent manager, better than most, but genius?

There is a contemporary of mine who I feel comfortable calling a 'genius.' That would be Brian Wilson, singer/songwriter formerly of the Beach Boys.

Brian was also a pretty good closer, with 172 career saves.

But seriously, that was a good post.

Now this is a hell of a lot better line-up than I'd ever seen on DRAGNET.

And, Kike might get up with a man on base!

Maybe "genius" has different meanings to each of us.

I have to agree with SPLINTER that it's a word that gets used too liberally.

I'm not sure I even want Cora to be a genius. I just want him to be super-competent, which I think he is.

The hoodie with the Pats, and the cigar with the Celtics aren’t, and weren’t genius, and Cora certainly aren’t in their category. To overused a word.

When it comes to baseball, I'd have no problem calling Charlie Finley a genius.

I think of Charlie as one of those 'fine line between genius and insanity' guys.

Cora doesn't have a Tom Brady or a Bill Russell to lead the team year in and year out LOL

Maybe others use the word, too much, but I think the word fits with Red Auerbach, Theo and Cora, but it's early on Cora, admitted.

I predict the Sox will win tonight if they can score more runs than Houston.

You won't get much of a betting line on that prediction though.

Who acquired Bill, and Bird, and ... (and I'm not even a Celtics fan)

Very smart, maybe even brilliant. Maybe brilliant is a better word than genius. Genius is more about creativity, ergo Brian Wilson.

That's your interpretation, but even with that criteria, Red was ground-breaking in some ways, and the creativity was on display when he drafted Bird as a Junior and blew up the whole system.

Well said.

Not a very good at bat by Kike. He swung at 2 pitches out of the zone, but he almost got lucky on the pop to short center.

Devers follows suit. Swing at anything. Took three balls, great. Finally gets the walk on the same pitch he swung at on the first pitch. Edited by Maxbialystock
