I get it. The Rays have won 3 divisional titles with their small payroll. Have they won a WS? Nope. So what's the point? If a team doesn't win the WS, the season is pretty much a failure.

ERod got the start because he was the best bet to do well and was not on short rest.

 

He did not do all that well, but with a little help, he might have gotten out of that inning.

 

Sure, it could have been worse, too.

 

I think we might be reading too much into Cora's choices and intentions.

 

If we advance, ERod will likely start again- maybe even game 5.

We certainly have higher need areas than back up DH.

 

One idea is to trade JD with cash and sign Schwarber, but we could just wait until next winter to sign another hitter.
