We just signed Locasto after the Sox let him go. Really? That’s it?

That is worse than dumpster diving. That's digging through the landfill. I guess , sometimes you can find something good in there.

As it stands right now…

3B Lemahieu

RF Judge

DH Stanton

LF Gallo

CF Hicks

1B Voit

2B Torres

C Sanchez

SS Urshela

SP1 Cole

SP2 Severino

SP3 Taillon (might miss April)

SP4 Montgomery

SP5 German/Cortes

CL Chapman

SU Green

SU Loisiga

MR Holmes

MR Peralta

MR Luetge

MR Gil

If healthy, that’s a good roster. As it won’t stay healthy, it needs help that the farm cannot deliver right now. Gotta spend here

That is a very good roster assuming good health and bounce back years from DJ/Torres. But I'll assume the opposite since that's just how things go

So they signed Locasto to a major league deal, expected to be minimum.

If they’re gonna go the cheap, speed route, they were better served using Florial. He counters Locasto’s speed and at least has the chips to push a ball over the fence every now and then. Locasto’s only usable traits are contact and speed. Well, he blew out his knee last year, so speed is a question mark

Eventually you run out of players to sign

And we’re nowhere near that point.

Of course the Yankees should also be able to make a trade or two what with that incredibly deep farm they have…

If someone wants pitchers who can throw high 90s, we’re the farm to get guys from

Donaldson and IKF to the Yankees. Gio and Sanchez to the Twins.

New look left side of the infield in the Bronx, and it’s actually quite impressive..

I'm assuming this move is a prelude to either another trade or signing, so I'll reserve my judgment. If not then wtf.

1B: LeMahieu & Voit

2B: Torres & LeMahieu

SS: IKF & Torres

3B: Donaldson

Lots of questions and a ton of money, but looks better on paper than 2021.

Freedom!! No more apologizing for Sanchez ********

You got a GG SS, which fixes a lot of problems.

Donaldson is a high cost 36 year old, who has played in 115 games in '19, 135 in '21 but not much at all in '17, '18 and '20. He should fit right in with the Yanks.

The guy can still rake (.827 OPS in 2021 and .865 from '19-'21 while playing in 318 of 384 games (83% is a better percentage than many other Yanks.).

Urshela hit .815 since 2019 and played in 291 of 384 games (76%.)

I cannot tell you how much I love this trade. While IKF isn’t a sexy name, he’s better than every other SS still on the market not named Correa. He solidifies a position that’s been a defensive black hole since Didi left. I did not want the Yanks to deal prospects for IKF as I figured he’d be a stop gap. Problem solved. Urshela had some soft tissue injuries creep in last year and started to fade. He also was slated to be out of position as a SS. Deal him before he loses value. Sanchez was a non tender candidate. We are literally better off without him. It still wouldn’t surprise me if he went off for 40 bombs in MIN, but he was toast in NY. Our defense up the middle just got worlds better.

And then there’s Donaldson. I love his attitude. He will add fight to this gutless team. Expecting anything more than 120 games is likely too much, but he can start as a 3b and slide over to 1b if the bruised hulk Voit goes down again.

Yanks got better today. I’ve been killing them for their lack of action, but I like this move a lot

Maybe the best part of the trade is how it helps Torres by moving him to 2B and LeMahieu by letting him play 1B more often.

Honestly, it moves DJ to super sub. He probably going to play 140 games (if healthy) with an even split between 1b, 2b, and 3b while playing a few games at SS to give IKF a breather. This trade just added depth and versatility to an IF that didn’t have any.

And the days of pitchers hating Sanchez are over. You should see a major rotation boost just by losing the fat slob behind the dish. Higashioka has just as good an arm, but frames and blocks better. He’s not Cole’s personal catcher for nothing. Cashman just gave his pitching staff a huge, huge gift here

I’m just stunned the Twins said yes. I guess it’s a salary dump move for the Twins, but Donaldson is still good. Sanchez is a pile of s***. Urshela was hurt and started to fade back into the AAAA player he was before.

The Twins are toast. Dumping $50M and getting a younger 3Bman must have made them say yes.

$50M is a lot of money.

How can the annual World Series favorites possibly function without their All-Star catcher?

This trade is similar to the deal that brought Bradley back to Boston, though some Red Sox fans just can't accept that it was all about the prospects -- and not JBJ. But I think Yankee fans know or will know, that the defensive catcher prospect was the big target in ditching Sanchez. Gio is as good right now as Donaldson, and IKF is underrated but a place-keeper. Finally -- no more pretending on contending with a lousy backstop.

They did extend Jose Berrios and acquire Sonny Gray.

I don’t think this move is about the catching prospect at all. The catching prospect is expected to be a prime defender but hasn’t been able to hit his way out of a wet paper bag even in the minors. He’s a backup catcher through all this

And Urshela is definitely not the player Donaldson is, especially at the plate. Gio had 1.3 seasons of out of the blue offensive production and saw it slip last year. Donaldson still has middle of the order bat production with still high level hard contact and walk rates. He’s also a league average K guy which is an upgrade for an offense with a bunch of guys K’ing high 20s% or more. But what I really love about Donaldson is attitude. He’s got a no-nonsense, f*** the world attitude which will help this team full of gutless sacks of s***. He’s the offensive veteran presence this team has craved since Gardner started going in the tank.

This is addition by subtraction with Sanchez. They could have had him for a bag of balls as far as I’m concerned. Add in a prime SS defender and now starting our top level defender in Higgy and the yanks have changed their spots in one move

If the Sox had traded for Donaldson, all you'd be talking about is his age and injury history and certain decline.
