Red Sox might activate Christian Arroyo tonight. Will see him work out and then decide.

Since July 18 (when he got hurt playing first base), Christian Arroyo has played nine games (AAA and MLB) and gone 1 for 22. Sox have delicate balance over the next 12 days to get him ready for the postseason while knowing Iglesias is best suited to make sure they get there.

Cora says Arroyo hasn’t had many at-bats in the last month and a half. Sox want his timing ‘on point,’ knowing that he’ll be relied upon heavily in postseason with Iglesias ineligible to participate.

Yeah, I was looking at that. If the Orioles use an 'every fifth game' schedule we'll miss him. If they use an 'every fifth day' schedule we'll see him.

 

I suspect they'll use the former because Means is such a valuable property, was on the IL, and they have no real incentive to win games. But we'll see.

Also agree with Cora starting lefty DH Schwarber over righty DH JDM--while also keeping better defensive firstbaseman Dalbec in the lineup.

 

Clearly Cora wants to keep up the good defense without sacrificing much offense.

ERod does not yet have good command of his changeup and slider--tonight. Still, good results.

JDM set up beautifully for that 3d swinging strike on a fastball down the middle. Having seen sliders and splitter low and away, the fastball completely fooled him.

Stroman is making a living off those pitches low in the zone. First time through the order, the Sox hitters are helpless.

When Sox pitchers go low in the zone or just below it, it's experimental and never, ever a steady diet.

Great at bat by Dalbec. Unlike JDM, he was ready for that fastball and nailed it. After four straight sliders.
