I think it is not always a bad idea give up top prospects when you are in a legit position to win it all.

We have won four rings and we have given top prospects in the process. They haven’t done that and they never have won a single ring. Also the pressure in large market teams is completely different. The Rays can spend another 100 years without winning and nobody will bother.

I agree.

This might be their best chance.

I'm looking at it as a Sox fan, and how dealing prospects will give us a better chance going forward.

I also think we can still beat a Rays team with Scherzer, this year, too.

This team is definitely special as it is. I see great chemistry in that locker room lead by Cora.

If Arroyo were more durable, we probably wouldn’t need another bat. Kike could take 1B, Arroyo 2nd and Duran CF in a regular basis.

If Sale is 80% of vintage Sale, we don’t need another SP IMO.

A rotation of Sale, Eovaldi, Rodriguez, Houck, Pivetta/Perez is a solid one.

Also I would send Richards to pen to round it better. Probably Richards coming off the pen for long relief duties could be benefit for everyone.

This week will decisive.

I'll be happy to see the Rays trade top prospects for an all-in one year window.

It's a terrible strategy and one they have always avoided, for good reason.

I also hope the Yanks are buyers not sellers- for the same reason.

Of course they got Nelson Cruz. If you have the prospects, making a flags fly forever deal is not terrible. Now it helps to have depth like the Dodgers who were not going to miss Jeter Downs par exemple.

If the whole purpose of playing 162 games is to win the WS, how is it a terrible strategy to get players at the trade deadline that helps this to happen? Btw, do you know the definition of prospect? It's a player who has proven nothing.

Naw they have pitching. Their offense is just not any good.

Yeah for them it is always about "can they find enough offense". They've always built to their ballpark - where flyballs often go to die, and focus on run prevention accordingly.

Adding Scherzer makes them the AL Fave.

No offensive stud on the market can do that.

(Plus, they already added Cruz. How's that working out?)

If the Rays acquire Scherzer, along with Glasnow coming back, that team will be a bear in the PO's.

Plus Cruz.

That's 3 huge pieces.

Scherzer has the power of approving what team the Nats attempt to trade him to. Like I posted earlier, he's definitely hinted he wants to play for a west coast team that's contending. Dodgers or Padres might be more appealing to him than Tampa. But, who knows.

No with that offense. It’s still weak. They get scherzer it won’t matter if they can’t score runs.

When your staff is allowing just 1-2 runs a game, you don’t need a great offence.

They added Cruz, so don’t you think that’s a big add? They have scored just 20 runs less than us before Cruz.

The Rays are right with us now, before Cruz, Glasnow and maybe Scherzer.

They will be the AL faves with Scherzer. They will not be MLB faves.

(I know Scherzer likes the west coast.)

Hearing Dodgers are pushing hard to land Bryant.

We’ll need more than Scherzer and Rizzo to beat the LAD and probably SFG or SDP, too.

Let’s go large and long this winter.

Disagree. In a 7 game stretch, almost any team could best another.

I am not buying that. They have pitching. That offense is weak. They’re not winning this division. Yankees have had their number recently a team that looks done.

d-money, the Rays offense is fine.

MLB rankings in run-scoring:

Boston 4 5.09

Tampa 6 4.92

And we play in a much better park for hitters.

What? You can't even be serious with that, moon.

I’m not in the playoffs are scrap shoot club, but we will not be faves over the NL teams and maybe not even the Astros, even if we add Scherzer and Rizzo, which we won’t be doing.

I plan on living another decade or two. My dad just turned a healthy and vivacious 94.

I’m extremely positive about our long term outlook and love this year’s magical team.

Add a couple pieces like we did in 2018 without upsetting the magic or chemistry or whatever you want to call it. Just don’t mess with the longer term plans.

We should have a list of 6-8 players that have some value to many GMs but are not a significant part of our future, some may include

Groome

Ward

Potts

Rosario

Chavis

Wilson

Arauz

A Rule 5 player or 2

If the Sox got Scherzer, they'd absolutely be faves to win over those teams.

1. I disagree.

2. Those teams are making moves to improve, too.

I know my opinion is probably within a small minority of posters who feel like I do, but I want us to wind for many years to come.

I think he have a nice team this year and a good chance to win by making 2 minor to moderate moves.

Of all our top prospects, I think Downs is the most over-rated, but maybe GMs feel like that, too. He's not "blocked," if Bogey bolts after 2022, in fact we'll have a gaping hole at the middle infield positions.

I'm not sure even DD would trade a lot for a rental. I'm fine with trading top prospects for controllable pitchers, but not for 2 month rentals. If Scherzer agreed to a reasonable extension, then maybe, but why would he do that, especially with an east coast team.

I would not trade any of these guys for any rental:

Duran

Bello

Jimenez

Houck

Casas

Downs

Yorke

Blow me away for these guys

Seabold

Ramirez

Song

These are the highest ranked guys I might trade for a rental, but I'm sure my list varies from others and most importantly, Bloom.

Winckowski

A Ramirez

Groome

Mata

F Valdez

Lugo

C Murphy

Howlett

Jordan

Bonaci

Murphy

Wong

Ward

Lugo

Ro Hernandez

40 man guys that might be squeezed, this winter are on the table:

Chavis (maybe Dalbec, if we get a 1Bman with 1.3 yrs+ of control)

Wilson

Arauz

Potts

Rosario

Cordero

maybe Bazardo

Nobody wants Andriese, Santana, Workman and maybe Rios.

I still like the idea of selling 1 or 2 from Richards, Perez and even Sawamura to free up salary space and open a slot for Sale and 1-2 pitchers we add through minor to moderate trades at the deadline. Maybe enough money can be freed to add a cheap 1Bman, or trade Dalbec and pick up Carlos Santana or a longer controlled player.

I'm not for doing nothing. I see a small squeeze on the roster, next year with all the rule 5 protectees and my vision of us adding 3-5 quality, including 1-2 very good to great FAs. We can make some nice packages without including top prospects.

That's what I want.

I think that's what Bloom & Cora want.

I hope it is.

(It's not like I'd be bummed out, if we traded for Scherzer and Carlos Santana, but my long term outlook would probably be dimmed significantly, unless Bloom pulls some master deals.

"Absolutely?"

Have you looked at the Dodger & Padres' rosters?

Plus both have already and will add more pieces, too.
