They optioned him to AAA, he is still on the 40 man roster. He can be recalled at any time--the 10 days have passed (or is it 15?).

As others already know, Andriese and Workman don't have options. I would deactivate and release both, one roster spot goes to Houck (who replaces G.Richards in the rotation) and the second goes to Ort (who can be optioned and thus the red sox can alternate relievers Valdez, Ort, and Rios).

It's 10 days (there are ways it can be done earlier than that involving injuries; e.g. Chavis was able to come back faster than 10 days due to Arroyo's injury). I think Valdez was sent down around the 10th of this month, so he should be eligible to come back either way.

Houck has only been in 3 games at Worcester for 9 2/3 innings and has spent much of the season on the DL; no way is he ready to take anyone's spot in the rotation. He's basically in spring training again.

Btw, the Jays cannot be ignored. Another team that may be in the hunt for Scherzer.

I can't see that. They would have to give up one their rising stars , probably 2 of them. I said a month ago I see the Jay's as a 500 team and I still see them that way. Their bullpen is trash.

If that's the price, I can't see any team giving up 2 rising stars for a 36 year old starter, no matter how good. Plus Scherzer is probably going to ask for an extension on his contract @ $35M/year.

The key to last night's game was Cora's early hook of Perez. The Yankees were very comfortable hitting against Perez , but the hard throwing right handed relivers pretty much shut down the Yank's one dimensional offense . The bumbling , overrated German and the third base coach's blunder didn't hurt either. But the quick removal of Perez was game changing.

Yes, I think that in general Cora has done a fine job with the pitching changes all year. It's one of his strengths as a manager.

Agree. It is one of the things most often second guessed , but Cora has been right a lot.

Wow. Cora wants this game. It's only June, it's the third inning, and the Yankees have only scored 3 runs. But out goes Perez after 67 pitches and in comes Sawamura.

In the heat of the moment, prescient.

It's sheer delight how annoying it is for Yankees fans to have to watch Whitlock pitching for us instead of them.

Especially when you see some of the guys they kept . What were they thinking ?

And possibly why they have been using such a large bullpen...

Just to make the night a little more annoying for Yankee fans, Jacoby Ellsbury shows up to honor Pedroia , looking fit and wearing a Red Sox jersey.
