Should have stuck with whitlock ffs

Absolutely. The theory was Whitlock would be a long reliever, but he brings him in for 1 out, then pulls Hernandez after he gets 2 outs.

It's like Cora keeps bringing in new pitchers to find one that can give up a big hit.

Not fully endorsing the Whitlock pull but I'm guessing Coras line of thinking is he gets 1 out and saves him for the Houston series.

? He pulled Hernandez after two guys got on base.

We are in the 6th inning of a game being played on a day when 14 MLB teams, including the Astros, are resting. So Cora decides to rotate as much of his bullpen as possible thru this one game. So far he's used 3 relievers to get 4 outs. This is also the 8th game in 8 days for the Sox.

Whitlock pitched 1.2 innings Saturday night. He was not in line for a long outing tonight. Cora used him where he could.

That's what I'm thinking, Sox have Whitlock on a plan, and pitching him for an inning or more would break that plan and likely make him unavailable for the Houston series.

They got a cheap quick out, and he will be good to go in a day or two in Houston.

Good point. The fact remains: 3 pitchers for 4 outs--with 9 outs to go.

So I guess I kind of am fully endorsing it, I was trying to have my cake and eat it too.

Sawamura will likely come back for the 7th. That leaves Taylor, Ottavino, Valdez, Workman. We shall see.

It's starting to look like we will get some Valdez/Workman/Taylor action tonight.

Get very excited folks.

I'd imagine the official scorer is not going to give Whitlock the win.

I wouldn’t be so sure. I have seen it done in similar circumstances. Pivetta can’t get the win.

Plus the last he pitched was Friday.

I'm aware that Pivetta can't get the win but the official scorer can decide who is more deserving of the win, which is usually not the guy who gets the 15th out and only the 15th out.

Sawamura would be my choice, but I have seen some weird official scoring on wins.

Baseball can be a weird game. Sawamura would be mine too. Lets hope the Sox don't screw this up and give the W to someone on the other side of the ball.

Glad to see the bullpen is deeper than I thought. Ottavino for the save?

Better is to get a run or more and not need a save.

So there's a chance for Whitlock.

This one made me laugh. The out Mayza got wasn't even in the fifth, it was the fourth. And then he gives up two baserunners to start the next inning and gets yanked.
