I think a lot of the Yankee's troubles come from razing the old stadium. The old Yankee Stadium had a rich history , an aura , an intimidating presence. Home to some of the greats. The house that Ruth built. Hosted world championship fights , classic football games , a papal mass and countless big baseball games. The new stadium has none of that. The Yanks won a championship in the first year there , but none since. Despite the improved amenities , it lacks the atmosphere of greatness that the old Stadium had. It's just not the same.

I don't usually agree with this type of argument, but I think there might be a lot of truth to this.

John Sterling is absolutely crushing Aaron Boone right now on the radio feed. He is essentially saying that this is a must win game, yet they are playing it like it is a middle of the season regular season game. Jordan Montgomery does not have it today, and the fact that nobody is ready in the bullpen right now is in absolute joke. This manager does not know how to manage to win a game.

Any resemblance between Jordan Montgomery and Andy Pettitte is purely coincidental . Any resemblance between Aaron Boone and Joe Torre is likewise .

The problem with the Yankees may simply be Cashman. A lot of Yankee fans think he's become arrogant and entitled, his job seemingly safe no matter what.

And it was Cash who made the somewhat peculiar decision to hire Boone, a man with no managerial experience whatsoever. The theory being that it's Cash actually calling the shots with Boone as his yes-man.

Cashman upgraded the team and the talent on the field should be sufficient to win. The problem we have right now, is that our manager has no idea how to play for a single game. He continually plays for the long game even when the season comes down to a game or two. Yesterday was case in point. You were down by one run with a heart of the order coming up in the next inning. You had two runners on with two outs and you had a rookie with an ERA over five on the mound instead of your reliable left-handed reliever who has an ERA under three.

Today, Jordan Montgomery had absolutely nothing. It was a parent from the beginning. If you are playing to win this game, you pull him as soon as he is in trouble again in the third inning. It was rather clear with a lead off single and then a walk, that he should’ve been out. Unfortunately, Aaron Boone had no one warming because he is a moron. By the time we finally replaced Montgomery, the game was out of hand. Boone continually manages this team with the intention that there is always tomorrow. That is no longer guaranteed.

Cash hand-picked Boone.

With this game likely to be a wash for the Yanks, you need to entirely forget about boston. If Seattle and Toronto lose this evening, you throw Gil tomorrow and save up your team for the wildcard game. If it is in Boston, so be it. Location doesn’t matter as much. But if Seattle and Toronto both win this evening, you need to be smart about the situation. Gerrit Cole has not been very good since he hurt his hamstring. Bringing him back on three days rest in a non-must win game is stupid. If the Yankees lose today and tomorrow and everyone else wins, the Yankees will be in a three-way tie for the final spot and will actually get to play on. What I would rather see, is the Yankees utilize a bullpen game starting tomorrow with Luis Severino starting. After that, go to Michael King, Clay Holmes, Jonathan Loaisiga, Chad green and roll from there. This way we utilize the strength of the team. Going up against Michael Wacha increases our chances of coming out with the wind. That would also save Gerrit Cole for a full rest for the wildcard game.

What dumb dumb will likely do is pitch Cole on short rest tomorrow and put us in a position to have to deplete our bullpen resources to try to win. If unsuccessful, we will be in a playing game on Monday with a tired bullpen and no Gerrit Cole.

But how do the Rays keep rolling out these no-name pitchers who kick your ass?

Baz is a really good picture and a top prospects. He is likely to be an ace going forward. There is no shame in getting shut down by him. There is shame in allowing your starter to get destroyed in a near must win game

Montgomery sucked.

As much as I think Boone sucks, too, he didn't allow Montgomery to suck.

BTW, maybe the players you felt were better than ours and others, like Montgomery, just are not as good as you thought.

Many Yankee players are coming up short, when it is most needed.

You can blame injuries every year, but it's time to realize you have a team loaded with injury prone players who just may not be as good as you think, even when healthy.

No doubt, this team has talent, but you need to start adding reliable players not all cut from the same cookie cutter Cashman uses every winter.

You could see Monty was sucking from the first inning. In a must win game, you have the pen ready. Once he put two runners on, you can’t let him face Lowe again. Sterling was skewering Boone for not having someone ready before the HR

I'm not saying Boone should not have yanked Monty before BLowe's second HR, but by your logic, he should have yanked him in the first or before the second inning.

He did get 4 of the next 5 guys out- 2 on Ks, so maybe the pen guy would have done worse.

It's not like all your pen guys have been lights out, and yanking him in the first would have really put them to the test.

Agreed, Boome blundered with Brandon.

These Rays look like a legit WS contender team. I think this is their moment to win it all. Maybe LAD is the only team who really could compete against them, but I do not see other.

I also read that they also won in every minor league category. It’s really impressive if you consider their budget. Just wow!

This SFG team is not the same as one from years back, but that team has a history fo not looking all that good, then once they make the playoffs, they take care of business. The Dodgers do have a play-in game that may mess their pitching up.

I'd put the Rays as faves, too.

1. Rays

2. Dodgers

3. Giants

4. Astros

5. Brewers

6. White Sox

7. AL WC winner

8. Braves

Yeah, they are a very good team but I don’t see them at TB’s. Even LAD is IMO bit lower.

Joan Adon announced starter for the Washington Nationals. It will be his 1st MLB start. Looks like he has a total of 4 starts in AAA and AA combined. Overall minor league numbers aren't are underwhelming.

Agreed. Save Cole, don't throw him on short rest.

Taillon is starting. It’ll be a 2-3 inning start then a BP game. We are facing Michael Wacha and his 5+ ERA for a team that’s got nothing to play for.

The Rays had "nothing to play for" the first 2 games of this series either LOL

Yanks spiral is linked directly to Boone f***ing up in game 1. This team keeps having to pick up the pieces for their manager.

Come on, man.

The Yanks scored 1 run in the first 8 innings in game 1. Boone was supposed to plan on them scoring 2 in the 9th?

And Montgomery had his worst game of the year yesterday.

Down 1 with the heart of your order coming up. You need to win 1 game to lock down a WC spot and you punt that game. Chapman was warming. Luetge was warming. Yet you went with the kid who’s been streaky and currently on a down skid. It’s not excuseable

This is the first year the guy has NOT won 100 games, and he still won 90. If you keep doing that, eventually you win championships. The beauty (of bane) of a 162 game season is that it provides countless opportunities for managers to make boneheaded decisions. How is it any different from a player making a huge error in the field?

I agree with jacko on Boone sucking, but jacko is trying real hard not to come to the conclusion that some of the players he thought so highly of, just aren't as good as he thinks they are.
