I'm hoping we can sign him to a long term deal.

I'd like to see the core group of Devers, Verdugo, Dalbec, Casas, Duran and Downs. (along with Xander and Valdez). Starting pitchers to include Mata, Houck, Seabold, Song and Groome.

The Valdez & Groome names threw me, but yes.

But probably not Chris Mazza, whom the Red Sox designated for assignment after the now 31-year-old righthander made six starts for the Sox last year:

Churn and burn the AAAA guys.

He probably sticks at WOO this year.

Hope springs eternal, when truths sprout but kernels, so no spring hopes are infernal.

This 2021 Red Sox squad can and should be better than last year. In a pastime often defined by nostalgia, it will be refreshing to watch new faces led by a familiar face back in charge.

I think we'll all be ok if we keep things in perspective. This club can win 60 more games than last summer and still have a losing record. But if new guys and young guys get chances to contribute and show improvement (and that includes down on the farm), things will move forward... and that may be good enough for now.

It should be much more fun watching the Sox this year.

???

If they win 60 more games than last summer, they would win 84 games and be right where they were in 2019. 84-78 is not a great record, but it is not a losing record...

That's what I meant -- 2019 -- which wasn't a losing year, but that so many (but not all of us) thought was a bad year. I will admit that September '19 was a bad month, at least watching the replacement players they ran out there.

That 2019 September team was the 2020 team, but with no ERod- the guy who led the team to a 5-1 record in his September starts in 2019.

No Sale.

A slumping JD.

A slow out of the gates Devers.

A disappearing Beni.

No winter spending budget to speak of.

Key word: much.

I want Renfroe and Frenchy to launch some bombs. JD needs to come back to pre-2020 levels. Devers could get close to an MVP run. Kiké should be fun to watch no matter what. Dalbec will always have easy power.

Verdugo is the key to making 2021 entertaining though. He's a good young player with a vibrant personality.

@MikeSilvermanBB

Red Sox players will find JetBlue Park turned inside-out, literally, into a tent-city.

For masked fans, it's look, don't touch:

Scan yourself in at gate.

No cash, please.

No live anthem.

No hawkers.

Head to your seats, 75% of which are zip-tied shut.

We are in the area but probably won't go under the circumstances. Day games are too hot anyway.

This explains the trade with Tampa; someone's gotta catch all those pitchers reporting tomorrow.

It's that time of year again folks:

Andrew Politi among Boston Red Sox’s most interesting pitchers at spring training camp, brings mid-90s fastball with spin and ‘chip’ on his shoulder

Posted

#RedSox have 71 players on their ST roster for the moment (counting Plawecki on COVID list). They can have many as 75.

Some teams have announced a "reserve squad" of extra players for games. Sox won't be doing that.

For now AAA season expected to start shortly after MLB season.

.... which will require surgery and sideline him for 6-8 weeks...

@PeteAbe

Likely not complete list of position guys working out at #RedSox camp:

Kiké Hernandez, Rafael Devers, Jeter Downs, Bobby Dalbec, Marcus Wilson, and Alex Verdugo.

With Cora back, I hope Devers is in good shape and ready to go. Glad he's already there.

Any word if Thad Ward has a shot In Pen to start the year ? Love this kid s stuff.Both Ward and Tanner are 24 now either s*** or get off pot .Both these men can help I think and then spend the money on JBJ

He was invited to ST'ing.

I think he is expected to be a SP'er at Portland (AA), to start the 2021 season.

This does seem to be a make or break season for a few of our young pitchers, and little to no action, last year, bunched up a few players into one bigger group.

Less than 0% shot. They are going to develop him as a starter first and foremost. He may transition to the pen at some point to reduce his workload, but it would be only short term.

@ChrisCotillo

Rodriguez said he felt fatigue last year when he was diagnosed with myocarditis... but right now, he feels great. No more lingering effects of COVID.
