Little variation on an old joke.

Roenicke comes in to manage the Sox and he finds 3 numbered envelopes in the desk left by Cora with instructions to open one in sequence any time he feels he is getting in trouble.

After going 3 for 11 and in last place Roenicke is feeling the heat and decides to open the first envelope The message contained is Blame Your Predecessor. He thinks about it and blames Dombrowski for now leaving him with a competitive team and realizes that fans agree.

Play goes on and the team is now 5 and 25 and the half season mark and fans aren't being kind. He doesn't know what to do so he opens the second envelope. The message in envelope 2 is Reorganize. So he brings up young players and changes the lineup and pitching. The team goes on a winning streak fed by the energy of the young players. Roemicke is elated.

Play continues and the opponents figure out the young players and the Sox lose the last 10 in a row. Well, he opens the last envelope hoping for guidance on how to keep his job. The message contained is Make 3 Envelopes, Sucker.

Ok fine...his numbers are not good against this pitcher...but whats the alternative? Putting that rookie Arauz in? Whats he gonna do for the team? lol

I would bet donuts to dollars that even the dumbest GM in baseball is far more smarter at running a team than any of us are.

I disagree actually...lol

When you say run a team though, are you only talking GM? Most of the talk here has been about how Roenicke is running the team

Im not necessarily blaming the GM because he can only spend as much money as the owner allows him to as well....I think based on where the team is right now, they need a good team manager that is willing to take risks and do what needs to be done to win...Need someone thst can think outside the box a little when making a batting lineup and making pitching changes(Or not)....I still think the team has potential if they had the right coach, and someone that can do this

Potential for what?

Again - RYAN WEBER IS OUR #3 STARTING PITCHER.

Maybe D-Hern can start when he returns

Unless he take three turns every time through the rotation, it’s not enough.

See, the overt message in RYAN WEBER IS OUR #3 STARTING PITCHER is that Ryan Weber is pretty bad, and certainly not good enough for that role. The hidden message is “and yet he’s still better than two other starting pitchers in our rotation!!”

Weber turns it around starting Friday. You'll see.

I think that line of thinking would work better if they are really ready to win. This team isn't ready for prime time. It could be a good time to play around with ideas, but I don't know if the manager needs to do anything more than make sure his younger guys are progressing appropriately and not getting into bad habits.

I have to say that it seems like the Sox are much more willing to try to beat the shift with a bunt this year.

Well, he almost doubled his Game Score from game 1 to game 2. If he does that again, it'll be closer to an average start. If he keeps compounding his Game Score like that, he'll have the CY wrapped up by year end.

He doesn't have the consistency. I think it's better to keep him as a reliever.

I sure hope so, but considering what Ive seen so far in Weber, hes been very mediocre, at best

I sure hope so.....I dont think he did so well the last time around against Toronto

And why is that? Because thats who Roenicke made the #3 pitcher

Why cant they give Brice more of a chance to be a starting pitcher(Not just an opener)? He has looked great the last couple times he came in, I thought

In fact, I think the Blue Jays hit him pretty good the last time they saw him

His best start last year was against TOR.

However, that September performance against TOR was a nightmare.

Hard to say what it'll be like today.

He hasn't really started a game since 2016. Not sure he could go longer than 3 innings.

Didnt he just face them in preaseason(summer)?

I thought he looked good against the Yankees....but they only let him go 1 inning...before every1 ekse got hit around

Ryan Weber gave up four runs over six innings in a tune-up start against the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Weber pitched really well for the most part, though Rowdy Tellez connected for a two-run homer in his final frame. Boston’s No. 3 starter -- yes, really -- yielded six hits in all while walking one and striking out six. The 29-year-old offers good control and induces grounders, but he holds a shaky 5.04 ERA (over 11 starts and 31 relief appearances) in the majors. He’s not much of a fantasy option.

I'd take that over his last two starts for sure.

Yeah, he could probably get you through the order once, but pull the plug after that. He's only pitched over 3 innings once in MLB and that was 3.1 innings back in 2017.
