Okay, onto the next topic, should Vedugo get his back fixed surgically?

Does he need to? Is this another "elective" question?

Posted
If 8 months of rest hasn't helped, maybe surgery should be considered.

The last entry on his Rotoworld page said he was swinging the bat and expected to BA back before the end of April...

Discovered shortly after the AG said that they would be prosecuting cases of stolen medical supplies. Coincidence?

Incompetence is a far bigger problem than maliciousness.

Maybe. I've not seen any medical reports on it though.

So he'll be ready for opening day then.

Possible. I don’t expect the season to open until June at the earliest...

I thought June at first, but I'm leaning to ASB at the earliest now.

That a lot of missing masks ... 39 million. I don't think they would fit in a supply closet that someone forgot about. I think you underestimate the ability of scammers and thieves in times like this.

Anybody who actually reads his posts knows otherwise.

Factually usually on target, but sometimes socially clueless.

Depends how long they opt for Spring Training 2...

Is this really the case though? The surgery was performed at the Kerlan-Jobe Institute, where what they do is orthopedic and sports-related medicine.

What resources of theirs are actually going to be called on in the coronavirus fight? Do they have anything that can't be obtained elsewhere and in a more cost-efficient way?

I don't know the answer to those questions, just posing them.

They are using surgical masks and gowns, at the very least. Not just for the surgeon, but for the entire surgical team. Are a few masks and gowns going to make a significant impact on the fight? No. But my understanding is that these items are extremely scarce, with some nurses having to use the same mask while tending to different patients. Every mask helps, no matter how little.

3.9 million masks had gone missing. These surgeries did not use needed resources.

How about the employer's who direct and pay for the healthcare of the athletes?

Absolutely. The Red Sox are equally irresponsible.

Do you know what is in his contract? Most players listen to the team and the doctors. You are putting too much responsibility on the athlete to meet you view of social awareness. Very judgmental on your part. Sale putting off his surgery as some show of selflessness would have been as meaningless to the cause as wearing a ribbon to support the cause.

It's quite possible that the team 'forced' Sale to have the surgery now against his will. It's much more likely that Sale was 100% on board with getting it done now. It is my opinion that if Sale really didn't want to have the surgery done now, it wouldn't have been done.

Showing solidarity in the face of a common enemy is never meaningless. It is morale and working together to defeat this enemy that will win this battle. It is putting service above self.

Bravo.

It does seem like over time nearly everything can be joked about. The only thing that comes to mind immediately that's hasn't been a subject for humor is the Holocaust. I still haven't seen many jokes about 911 either. However, timing is everything and IMHO it's way too early to be joking about COVID-19 when people are still dying.

As I said, JMO.

I agree.

I caution all of us against getting up on the high horse. I don't think any of us do all that we could in the battle against disease and suffering. The coronavirus is the big deal right now, but disease and suffering never take a break.

Elktonnick said he has been going to spring training each year for the last few years, I believe. Couldn't the money he spent on that have been put to better use by donating it to cancer research? The same goes for anyone who spends money watching baseball. I think that takes in just about all of us.

You seem to think that because Sale and Syndegard make a lot of money that they should forego care.

It's not because they make a lot of money. It's because they have enough money to live a very comfortable life if they never worked another day. That makes their surgery non-essential.

And why do you put him in the position of going against his employer on a matter covered by his contract -- to prove to you his social awareness? No needed resources were wasted on Sale's surgery.

I think you're making an awfully big stretch here Bell.

The Surgeon General didn’t ban spending money to go to baseball games during non-pandemic years...
