Nearly 100 years ago the Boston Red Sox who were at that time one of the best teams in baseball sold their best player Babe Ruth to New York because their owner needed the money. Now a hundred years later in eerily similar circumstances, the Red Sox traded their best player to the former Brooklyn Dodgers. Will history repeat itself further? Will Boston now suffer the curse of the Mookster!

We are rebuilding. We will suck for a while. It is what it is.

Suck like the Padres, Marlins, Orioles? Nope

They'll be mediocre. If somehow Sale and Eovaldi can pitch good in 2020, they can be quite good. that was their biggest weakness in 2019, they had no pitching outside E-Rod, who was bouncing around himself.

Hard to say, we are in a very hard division. We won’t be that bad, but being average in our division will make us look worse than what we are. Jays are on their way to being pretty good too in the next couple years. This could be some down years for us unfortunately. If we exceed expectations then great! I’m just not expecting anything great for a while.

Not really, just pointing out the historical similarities.

You left out a massive historical difference. That Mookie was dealt during free agency and had one year left on his deal. The Red Sox could have kept Babe Ruth for the remainder of his career if they wanted to and there was nothing he could do about it. But Betts had the option to leave and fully intended to explore the market...

A distinction without a difference.

Right. Sort of like how the guy who powers up the electric chair is just as guilty of murder as the guy sitting in it...

There are some similarities and notable symmetry in this case. Just a weird set of coincidences or cosmic foreboding coincidence? I prefer to believe it is just a weird coincidence, but Boston sportswriters will latch onto it if the Sox experience any prolonged drought and Mookie wins some Championships.

Some small superficial similarities. The entire reason for the Betts trade was this team was aging, expensive and has no farm to speak of. The Sox were not headed in a good direction, and "one last shot at a title" is a much. much bigger pipedream than thinking Betts won't come back in 2021...

Well then Google it

His point was you completely misused the phrase "distinction without a difference" due to the massive situational difference. Unless you have some brand new definition of the word "distinction" that applies here...

Well at least it isn't Pollyanna U or better known as P. U.

Pollyanna U's football team would crush the s*** out of Complaining State. But guess which team would be whining to the press afterwards?

No I didn't.
