I don’t think unloading Betts means the season is over.

It doesn't mean the season is over, but it's hard to envision a scenario in which we get better by doing it.

Once Fans realized that Pitching is everything, the real Roots of the game. They will realize that a Right Fielder, is not the difference.

Henry Aaron, Roberto Clemente, and we'll even throw in Dwight Evans, won a Total of 2 WS.

"Nothing else Matters except the little lump of dirt in the Middle of the Diamond"- Earl Weaver

If you move Betts and hit a HR on another teams young talent in Pitching you could dominate for a while, and be cost effective. Its a gamble one that the Trade simulator will never get. But, that's why you have Humans.

Sorry 3 WS, forgot Mazeroski's HR. In about 1 million games for all 3.

Don't want to wish on nobody, but Judge could get injured in Spring Training, be out the whole season, and they could still be a favorite to win the WS, because they improved the most important part of the game. The Pitching.

Betts is the Sox best player, but trading isn’t necessarily a white flag. The Sox did not get equal value for Nomar and won the World Series that year. They didn’t even come close to getting anything worthwhile for AGon, but won the next year anyway.

Price might be tougher to replace than Betts, at least for 2020.

Listen not saying I want to lose Betts, but right now your gambling the future. You have some chips left, but like all gambling, you will eventually have none.

If the Sox want Betts back, they have to sign him to a Mega Deal now. You just cannot wait, till he hits Off-Season, when there is 29 teams, that can do anything. Bad Odds.

If not move him.

My bet is DD already tried that prior to the boot. Mookie thought Trout left money on the table when he signed. He’s positioned himself as a businessman and he’s gonna maximize his return. If he finishes 2020 healthy and with another 6+ WAR season, he’s gonna set a record

If I was Bloom, I would go into Henry's office and tell him lets call him and his Agents Bluff now. And don't be cheap, if he bites, or if he doesn't at least you know where you stand for the future.

This is stupid by Bloom.

Sorry, but that's a bad argument. There are numerous pitchers in the Hall of Fame that never won a WS.

Mookie has no case for getting more money than Trout. He's a great player but he's Avis and Trout is Hertz.

Do you change Right Fielders everyday? You have 4 or 5 Right Fielders, come on entirely different Position.

He's giving you an indication where he stands, now go for it, one way or the other.

If he wants to go to free agency there's nothing we can do about it. But it doesn't mean we have to wave him goodbye.

True.

But how good has Trout made the Angels? The guy is labeled one of the greatest players of all time with career fWAR better than several Hall of Famers already, and he is only 28 years old.

But 1 postseason series. 3 games. 6 years ago.

Ever watched the Angels and thought “this team should just trade Trout for a HAUL and put a good team in the field for once?” I know I have. It’s easy to say stuff like that about a team I don’t care about...

I know that.

Earl Weaver was a very smart man and he has some great quotes about the game. But he would know better than anyone that having a stacked rotation doesn't guarantee a thing. In 1971 he had 4 20 game winners, but they lost to the Pirates anyway.

It's just been a badly run team.

It does mean there’s a good chance. And if you think it’s likely, what’s better for the Sox team? One last season of Mookie or whatever players he is worth in a trade?

And if you think you can re-sign him, isn’t resetting this year the first step in that process?

No, I don't buy that argument at all. As the rules stand now (and they may change after 2021), re-setting gets you a lower tax rate for 2 years. That's it. How does that decide the fate of an 8 or 9 year mega-contract?

Not really.

The Angels have had some good teams, but have had a devastating and bizarre multi season run of pitching injuries.

Really their one big mistake was their inexplicable addiction to Mike Scioscia...

First of all, aren’t there draft implications in exceeding the tax multiple seasons? And free agent compensation implications? And other effects?

Second, John Henry wants the team to reset. That makes it the first step in the process...

No, the draft implications come in if you exceed the first threshold by 40 million, regardless of whether it's the first time or tenth time in a row.

a) "It's a goal, not a mandate."

B) They could re-set in 2021, or 2022...

It is funny how Earl Weaver has become the most quotable manager in baseball history on what it takes to build a winning team, but he only managed one World Series winning team himself, the same number as Alex Cora...

Given how Bloom and the Sox have moved this postseason, it’s looking like a mandate.

And per multiple sources, failing to get below the limit this year costs Henry about $100 mill all told.

The tax itself is nothing; the Sox paid more to Rusney Castillo than they did in luxury tax last year. But there are apparently lots of other penalties for repeated high spending...

True, although his teams did make it to 4 Series.

By the way, if they extend Betts, how are they supposed to reset in 2021?

We still haven't seen the real proof that it's a mandate to get below 208.

We've certainly seen that it's a mandate to curb spending.

But in a quarter of a century.

Dave Roberts could equal him in World Series losses this year, his sixth season...

a) Trade Price this offseason, with the other team paying $18 mill a year or so.

B) JDM opts out at the end of the year.

c) JBJ is gone.
