I read this article earlier, and I've been wondering exactly what James means by this:

"I’ve fallen out of step with the organization. The normal flow of work assignments to work products has deteriorated to basically nothing; honestly, I should have left a couple of years ago.”

I think it means they stopped taking (or using) his advice a couple years ago.

Sounds like he feels he was cut out of the input on decision making. If true, there is more going on behind the scenes than we know. I was also 70 when I retired as a consultant to a major techincal firm. I too felt I was cut out of the main decision making and because of my history they wanted to say I was on board but didn't want my experience and input. Hard to know what it means but it may be significant.

Don't you think this is almost universal? I blessedly realized when I was about 60 that no one in their 30s or 40s gave a crap what I thought, said, or did. Knowing this made my last 10 years 'working' almost joyful! Probably ask the young posters here: how many of you go to work eager to hear what your 70-year-old colleagues have to say, fully prepared to implement their ideas?

There is a 57.2% chance that the FO hasn’t taken his advice in the past 730 days.

If we move that up to 365 days the analytics say 78.6%....

fangraphs has it at 41.3% and 44.6%, so who knows?

These metrics should be rounded up and blown up.

Oh it’s not good for sure .I hated the Levangie hire as Pitching coach last year mainly because Dana is an old school no Anylitics coach .The modern day Red Sox must use every advantage to the teams betterment.Bill should still be heading that area up and it truly saddens me he’s not now .

It’s training vs experience. The training now for more every job is better than it was 30-40 years ago. The ease of use of technology is far greater in the newer generation than in the older. It’s the way of the world. But the experience is something you cannot teach in a course, it must be learned over time.

I guess my question is why? Have the new analytics just passed him by? I have a hard time believing that that's the case.

Maybe that's exactly what happened, or they reached the end of can be done.

Another victim of the stupidity of desperate Dave!

So why wouldn't he stick around now that Dave is gone? Another logic fail, Larry.
